In summary: Recommended if you're looking for a supremely located, simple but functional apartment in SP at a great price.
Marta's apartment is located in a supreme location in Jardins, very close to Paulista and at walking distance from supermarket, bakery and plenty of restaurants and bars (we recommend Marta's favorite restaurant Segredos de Minas, ended up eating there 3 times in 10 days).
The apartment itself is small but functional. The bed is great and the kitchen is well-equipped. Our only 2 gripes were
1) that there is no available cupboard or shelf space to unpack your luggage into (though this should be less of an issue if you are not - as we were - actually arriving in São Paulo to *live* there and with a baby at that).
2) the wooden flooring in about 5 square meters of the living room/kitchen is loose and has some cracks, which made it a bit uncomfortable for us and our baby to walk barefoot in this part.
Marta herself was extremely quick and helpful in communication througout our stay (Portuguese - we never tried English), and though we never met her she made us feel at home in SP right from the start.
Muito obrigado Marta, realmente desfrutamos a nossa estadia, e esperamos que lhe podemos encontrar um dia para agradecer-lhe pessoalmente!
I stayed in Marta's apartment for about a month. She was very responsive and friendly while I was there. I speak portuguese, so I'm not sure how it would have been had I not spoken english-but for me the communication was great.
The apartment is probably the best value for money I've found in Sao Paulo. Marta's house does not have air conditioning, which was cause for concern, but it is well shaded and I was very rarely hot (I sleep with the fan on even in the winter). In fact, this was a very very hot summer, and I was perfectly comfortable the entire time. The apartment has a nice amount of space for 1 person--a bedroom, a bathroom, small living room, kitchen, table for eating and laundry area. The apartment is also very well-located.
The floor in the apartment needs to be redone at some point-blocks of wood come loose, which means it's easy to trip if you're not careful.
Other than that I very highly recommend.
Although we unexpectedly had to leave a few days early and therefore didn't meet Marta, I liked this apartment.
The location is impeccable: near museums, a big park, the metro, great expensive shopping - check out Rua Haddock Lobo - , the weekly flea market, the weekly farmers market, and many good restaurants.
The apartment is comfortable and homey, and had all necessities. WiFi works best in the bedroom, and not too well in the sofa.
This is a safe apartment in a safe area; you can wear your jewelry, including your wedding ring, here.
(Don't wear expensive looking jewelry on the beach or in rougher areas; in both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, thieves cut off fingers to steal wedding rings.)
In this Jardins area, many women on the street have bleached their long straight hair blonde and wear fantastic heels, which are available from the stores nearby. The dress code for men is decidedly more relaxed: long loose shorts, trainers, and a loose T shirt are fine in most circumstances.
Excelente localização, confortável e comunicação com a Marta, rápida e simples. Sempre que for a São Paulo e houver disponibilidade, irei ficar neste apartamento. De novo desde a última estadia: todos os cabais cabo estão agora disponíveis. Único ponto "negativo" é a velocidade da internet, que continua a ser algo baixa: 1 Mbps.
What a wonderful apartment! Maria's cozy and beautiful flat was a pleasure to sit and work in, especially in the afternoon sun. Located in a lovely neighborhood with lots of interesting shops and places to eat. Easy access to Av. Paulista and the metro, which made our commute a pleasure. Great to have a washing machine in the apartment for a longer stay. Building very easy to find, with a friendly manager who was very helpful. So much nicer than a faceless hotel. Thank you, Maria!
- Apartamento super silencioso e calmo. Todos os dias parecem domingo. Arejado e iluminado. Bem equipado e super confortável.
- Lugar seguro. Porteiros gentis.
- Transporte: Metrô e ônibus á duas quadras.
Marta, obrigado por tudo !
