The pictures do not truly reflect the size and the accommodations. it is a very small room... it is definitely not 30 meters from the Museum of Modern Art... it is close by, about a mile away. The beach is 20 meter away... but that didn't matter, I was very disappointing that they offered to wash our clothes and they made it seem as if it was complimentary of the pousada, and then they charged us about $100 dollars. That was not a nice thing to do.
The pictures are real, and we do not offer any laundry sevices, I m sorry for Ângelo because of his deficit in communication! There are no tricks at the pousada and this was my first Bad experience at airbnb as a host.
We had a great stay at Alexandre's and Aglaia's atmospheric house in Santa Teresa. It is on the top of Santa Teresa, which means great views and perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We had a wonderful view of the Cristo from our bedroom, woke up by the sun shining through our window and birds singing outside, and would have a nice & light breakfast at the antique dining/breakfast room. Alexandre and Aglaia were very nice hosts, gave us recommendations on places to go, and things to do, etc. The place is a 5-10 minute bus/taxi ride close to Lapa, with its nightlife, or to the centre, or a 10-15 minute mini-van ride to the Largo do Machado metro station that takes you to Ipanema, copacabana, etc.
Alexandra and Aglaia's home was a wonderful base for our short stay in Rio over New Year's. A bit off the main Santa Teresa drag, the house is exquisitely appointed, with a lovely garden and views of Rio and the Cristo Redentor, steps from frequent (5 minute interval) buses to Santa Teresa, Lapa, Centro, and Largo do Machado. Our hosts were extremely helpful orienting us to the city and answering our many questions, and they prepared an excellent breakfast each morning. Highly recommended!
We stayed 3 nights at Alexandre's place, and we had a really wonderful time. The house is beautiful, there is a sunny terace with hamacs and the view on the Cristo Redentor, in Santa Teresa (the place to be), 2 buses stop in front of the house, it's 5 min away from the best area in the neighborhood to go out and have drinks at night. We were a bit afraid that Santa Teresa would be too much out of the city but actually it's close and for us it's the best area to stay in Rio. Simply perfect!
Alexandre was really nice with us, helping us with everything, giving us good tips on the city. He went out at night in Lapa with us and the other guys staying at the house, just like a friend we were staying with.
Breakfast is huge and fresh, even the monkeys living in the bamboos in front of the house want it! We had a big room with our own bathroom (and bathtube!), clean and cosy.
I think we could'nt find better. Thanks Alexandre for those memorable days in Rio.
Alexandre and Aglaia were such lovely hosts with such an amazing home. We had a great time on our 3 night stay there.
We had just come from staying in a hostel nearby and thought we would have no trouble finding affordable last-minute accommodation in Rio for the weekend, but we were so wrong. The night before we had to leave we were frantically looking for other places, but everything was either booked or ridiculously overpriced. When we tried again next morning Alexandre answered my message within minutes and told us we could come whenever we wanted. We were able to check in within an hour at 11:30 AM.
Before we arrived I looked on (website hidden) Maps and was a bit wary of the location as it didn't seem extremely close to the shops and bars we had been to in Santa Teresa or Lapa, and looked as if it's in a bad area in the middle of several favelas. However, this is not so. It is a quick bus journey/cab ride to everything in such a nice residential area.
The house is absolutely stunning and the view is unlike anything I've seen. On clear days you can see the entire city and get a good feel for what makes rio so special: beaches, jungles, and people. At night we would just sit on the bench outside or in the hammock and look at the view. There are a lot of trees, birds, and animals around adding to the vibrant atmosphere. Our bedroom was nice, clean, and comfortable with a lovely view of Cristo Redentor.
We had done most of the touristic sightseeing when we were staying at the hostel before, so we mainly stayed in Santa Teresa. During the day we walked around looking at houses, attractions, and street art, then at night, we went partying in Lapa which was a short cab ride. The favelas like to party too. They were a bit noisy during the day (with fireworks and funk) but this added to the atmosphere of the neighborhood and was not a nuisance at all.
Breakfast was nice and light with fresh local fruit, juice, and bread. The conversation was also good as we talked a lot with Alexandre and Aglaia about Europe and Brazil. Alexandre is very knowledgeable about his country and city. We learned a lot about the culture and he also gave us great recommendations for food and advice on where to go. He was so nice in fact, we didn't even mind taking a photo for his guest book. ;)
We knew our flights left late Monday afternoon, but didn't realize it was so late. We felt terrible asking if we could check out at such an unconventional hour, but again Alexandre & Aglaia saved the day and we were able to check out late at 4:30 PM.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to other travelers!
It is an excellent place for people who want to experience Rio de Janeiro from the very special Santa Teresa quarter. House was clean and comfortable and has the sort of rustic elegant features typical of Santa Teresa. Breakfast was good, served at the times we requested, even when it was at a very early hour. House personnel was helpful and non intrusive. Overall a pleasant experience.
We loved our stay in 'the villa'...our hosts were most helpful, which made it so comfortable. The trolly was not running, so we were walking a lot, but the neighborhood was fun to explore. I recommend staying here if you like to be a little off the beaten path.
Staying at Alexandre´s house was a wonderful experience. Him, his fiance, and her mother, who all live on site were extremely warm and welcoming, offering help with various logistics. It was great to have Alexandre staying at the house as he was able to not only answer questions, but help with restaurant recommendations. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!.
Five Stars for the villa on the top of Santa Teresa! About 8 of us from the USA and Canada stayed for a little more than two weeks with Alexandre and his fiance during our participation at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. Alexandre kept up with all of our schedules, helped us navigate the city, recommended places to eat and visit, and made our stay in Rio a warm and welcoming experience. Santa Teresa is an artist community and one of the most charming neighborhoods in Rio, rich with history and dotted with small and peaceful favela communities, set within lush forest and amazing views. Highly recommended for an authentic and special experience with a talented and kind host!
There is not much to say about this magical place in Santa Tereza - it's just amazing! You stay in a beautiful house surrounded by trees and flowers in the middle of Rio with a stunning view on the Christo. What makes your stay even more unforgettable are the host Aglaia and Alexandre. They welcomed me very warmly and showed me special places I wouldn't have discovered by my own. I really appreciated the detail oriented and artistic way they decorate there home. It's so nice that you don't even have to leave the place to fell in love with Rio.
Alex was a very nice guest. We would be happy if he visited us again.
I've been friends with Alexandre's fiancée for almost 15 years and during my sabbatical year, I had the chance to live with them for 6 months in Rio. Both are very easy-going people and are the perfect hosts. You can count on them to give you updated tips on Rio and they will make sure you will have a great time without ever being obtrusive.
I really had a great experience staying with them. The house is set in a beautiful area surrounded by nature and it is just a 15-minute bus ride downtown.
