No regrets in our choice, we recommend the Aviva studio!
It is a warm studio, comfortable, close to all amenities : supermarket, shop, small restaurants, coffee shop and especially several subway lines.
The bed was very comfortable, the studio is in a quiet building on a quiet street. Ideal to regain strength after a day of walking !
Have a good trip !
the bed was cozy, the apartment sunny and the heat warm - all welcome in the cold snowy weather.
We had an awesome stay here at the end of October - the location was perfect (close to the Barclay Centre & its main subway hub, a short walk to the Saturday Brooklyn Flea, an even shorter walk to Prospect Park, lots of restaurants and bars nearby). We walked from the apartment into Manhattan (via the Brooklyn Bridge) in about an hour, and cab rides back from downtown were affordable.
The apartment itself was cute and clean, with just enough space for the two of us and our stuff, and we both thought the bed was super comfortable. Aviva was a good host - she arranged for us to get the keys from a nearby friend since she was out of town, sent us a big list of recommendations for places to eat/drink in the neighbourhood, and emailed from her vacay to make sure everything was ok.
The only negative part of our stay was the jackhammering that started at the nearby construction site at 7am on the Monday morning (not welcomed after a late night out) - but this is obviously outside of the host's control!
All in all, a great experience, and would probably stay here again.
Aviva was great!! The place is so cozy and amazingly quiet. Very comfortable bed, easy to get to from any location. When the time came closer to visit, we were in contact and her responses were quick and easy. Totally positive experience. I couldn't have asked for more.
What's that old joke about how only three things matter in New York real estate: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! By that standard, this is pretty much a perfect place to stay, with only a couple of minor caveats.
First of all, the neighborhood is marvelous, especially as an antidote to frantic, frenetic, overcrowded Manhattan. The apt. is located near every subway line you could possibly want and, there’s an embarrassment of choice when it comes to restaurants, cafés, laundries, markets, etc. You could spend weeks eating your way up and down 5th or 7th Avenue, while 6th remains an oasis of calm. It’s a pleasant walk to Prospect Park – in fact, it’s a pleasant walk almost everywhere. In particular, we were delighted to discover the glorious river front near the Brooklyn Bridge and the fabulous food fair at the Old Tobacco Warehouse.
Yes, the yuppification can be overwhelming (avoid Williamsburg like the plague if this bothers you), and there’s no shortage of restaurants and clubs that are just too cool for their own good, but there are also plenty of places with excellent food and no attitude or where you can hear good music for a reasonable cover charge. It didn’t take us long to figure out how to avoid the Zombi-Trendoids. Meanwhile, everything you’ve heard about the Sidewalk Baby Carriage Panzer Divisions is absolutely true; if you’re not into it, it’s a thing to be borne rather than enjoyed.
As a base for visiting Manhattan, Brooklyn is, in many cases, more convenient than uptown locations on the island. Late at night or during rush hour, you may need a few more minutes on average to get to/from Manhattan, but it’s literally a question of minutes.
Aviva was quick, not to say instantaneous, to respond to emails and calls, and went out of her way to make sure we had keys the moment we arrived. She left us alone unless we needed something, but had great advice when we did. There’s a small but really excellent library (Aviva didn’t specifically say we could read her books, but we suspect she doesn’t mind as long as things go back where they were.)
As for the caveats. First, the apt is really small. There’s very little closet space and essentially no place to put anything down other than the floor. Two people with a modest amount of luggage quickly made the place seem cramped. A decent couch would be nice, since comfortable seating was hard to come by. Second, though we’re far from neat freaks, the apt. needed a good cleaning, especially the floors and the bathroom (where the rug was kind of a horror show). It was somewhat frustrating to know we’d paid big bucks for cleaning when the fee had apparently not been used for its intended purpose. Sheets and towels, on the other hand, we’re spotless and fresh smelling (although a change of linens over a 9-day stay wouldn’t have been taken amiss).
All in all: highly recommended!
Very comfortable bed. Great location.
This studio was in an area of Brooklyn which was exactly where we wanted to be. We are recent Brooklyn ex-patriots who wanted to stay in a location which was convenient to reconnect with our friends. However, this is not for everyone.
First of all, you need to walk up three flights of stairs. When we entered the building, the floor and stairs were stripped of carpeting for a renovation project, and there was a bad odor. Aviva attempted to warn me of this by text, which I didn't see until afterward. The bed is the "money shot" for Air B and B. The rest of the furniture appeared to come from a flea market. This is a tiny studio, where there was little room for clothing and toiletries. It looked like Aviva would be returning shortly. As my wife stated, if she were 25 and in Paris, she would love the apartment! As it is, it's not for everyone. For a short stay it's O.K.
We booked this apt. for a stay in late August. Aviva was responsive and clear in communication. The small studio was excellent, comfortable bed, homey feel, serviceable small kitchen. Location is wonderful, too. You are mere yards from the 2,3 subway line, close to some nice coffee shops, bakeries, etc, and also two short blocks from Key foods for groceries.
Most important, the apt was CLEAN. There were no issues with bugs or rodents. I always check for bedbugs, and Aviva's place is one of the cleanest we've ever had.
The small negatives were unreliable wifi, as it only worked sporadically, and is apparently shared with a neighbor, and we couldn't get the TV to work, but we're not in NYC to watch TV. Also the landlord was in the bldg one day and gave us the stink eye when he saw us heading up the stairs, "Do you live here?" I was able to lie fast, but beware.
Overall, this was a wonderful choice and I'd stay again.
I booked this lovely place to my aunt and uncle. They visited nyc after 8000 miles driving from CA via many states, to attend my wedding in Brooklyn, as the last stop of their super trip. The place locates in a classical townhouse within one of the best neighborhood in Brooklyn. It's quiet and beautiful. It's convenient because it's close to bars, restaurants, shops, and subways (5 min walk for me). The house is clean, comfy, and is decorated in a sweet and calming way. My uncle and aunt had a great time staying, and were always lucky in looking for a parking place nearby. Aviva is a great hostess. She's a friendly and sweet lady. I enjoyed communication with her. Thank you, dear Aviva! I'd love to recommend this place!
Staying 5 nights in Aviva's studio was my first AirBnB experience and it was wonderful! There are tons of great shops, restaurants (Bogota was our favorite), and Brooklyn sights within walking distance. Plus, the subway line into Manhattan was super close by. The neighborhood is pretty, quiet, and safe. Aviva's studio is relatively spacious, sunny and bright, and well appointed. Aviva was timely and gracious about answering questions before and during our stay. We would definitely stay here again!
Although we didn't get the chance to meet them, these were excellent guests. Communication was clear and pleasant and we happily accepted their request to stay an additional night. We would welcome them back to our apartment any-day.
Aviva is a very nice and smiling girl! Unfortunately, we spent very little time together but it was very nice to meet her!
Aviva was an absolutely wonderful guest. She was respectful of my place, fun to have around and curious about my adopted home city. I would recommend her without reservation. In fact, I would be happy to welcome her back to my home at any time!
