The place was spacious and very inviting. The house had all the amenities that is needed. Marky and Gonzalo have been great on answering questions and helping us settle in. They really made our stay very comfortable. The place felt more welcoming than having 3 separate hotel rooms. The neighborhood is very quiet and sitting on the patio at night was very private and relaxing. Thanks Marky and Gonzalo!
Marky was extremely prompt in all communication, and the house was gorgeous. My family had a wonderful time staying here.
We had eight people, four children and four adults.
Pros - The house is well kept, there is lots of common space. It is airy and open and a classic Eichler home. The neighborhood is quite and despite being up the street from an elementary school, the location is quite private. The neighborhood is nice and very close to downtown San Mateo. There is a nice supermarket and produce store just down the hill. Marky and his assistant were very helpful. The hot tub is nice and plan on an hour and a half to warm up from cold. The small galley kitchen is well stocked and the equipment is very nice including the convection/microwave. Overall we had a very nice stay.
Cons - As mentioned in the reviews, the open house design can get loud - especially for the loft bedroom. It was particularly cold when we were there and the radiant floor heat was inadequate for the upper loft are. The lower bedrooms were fine. The downstairs shower was particularly challenging to keep the water from the floors, put a towel down to block the water solves the problem. Note that the owner lives in the unit below (also for rent, but we didn't rent) - not that this is a problem, but we heard sounds before we realized that he lives there if the loft room isn't also rented.
Life home was a great place for our friends to stay for a college reunion at Stanford. The house and grounds are lovely and the beds were comfortable. It's definitely not perfect -- as others have mentioned sound does travel through the house very easily, especially to the upstairs bedroom, and there are some design flaws with the showers that tend to get water everywhere. But there is plenty of common space to hang out and the house is attractive so if your main goal is to be together with a group and not just have a bunch of private rooms this is a good place. The hot tub was also excellent.
This is my first time to use Airbnb, it was really a wonderful journey. I love Marky's house, it's very beautiful and quiet. I will definitely come back next time.
We rented the whole house for a full week, and not only was it very comfortable for 8 people, but it was also an excellent place to host a reception prior to our wedding in the bay area. It truly is a Life House, we celebrated so much love of life in this house. The bbq, sauna and spa are truly excellent additions to the house which stands on its own - great architecture, space and views of the valley. Made the stay for my family truly magical.
Prior to renting the house I was in contact with Marky quite a bit, and he was always a true pleasure to chat with and then speak with after booking the place. Had a brilliant time hosting our family here.
This was my first AirBNB experience and I can't imagine it being any better than this. Marky's Life House was the perfect setting for our family vacation. The home was bright, open concept and super clean. Conveniently located :15 from the airport and provided easy access to highways leading us to adventures of Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Muir Woods, Carmel, Capitola and everything in between. I would definitely both recommend and stay here again, maybe next time I'll get to meet Marky himself to thank him personally for sharing his Life House with me and my family.
Marky is a fine host - never intrusive, always helpful and good company (as we found out when asking him to join us for one of our dinners in the house which he graciously did). His Life House (so named because once featured in Life magazine) is spectacular. Our family of two adults and three kids visited for 4 days at the end of a 4 week road trip through much of California. It was the best finish I could have imagined. After all the more or less cramped hotel accomodation, finally a spacious and beautiful house. The house has some nice amenities (a jacuzzi, a BBQ grill, a veranda on three sides, very high ceilings, open space architecture), and its location is very good indeed: it's just a quarter of a mile from the exit of the 280 freeway, half a mile from a nice local shopping mall (with a Safeway, a Starbucks, a CVS and so on), a mile or so from the 280/92 junction, and it takes you 20 minutes or so to each of downtown Palo Alto and Halfmoon Bay, and not much longer to San Francisco (22 miles, depending on traffic there). All the morning fog you have in San Francisco does not seem to concern the Life House but if you want to you can see it from the nearby scenic route 35 ("skyline boulevard"). I definitely recommend the Life House to anybody visiting the Bay area and would always come back.
