We loved staying at Mary Anne's. It felt more like staying at a friend's than a bnb. Mary Anne was really lovely and helped us with our road trip itinerary to California.
The house is beautiful and homely. We loved the fairy lights and covered linen walls in our attic room. The neighbourhood is really sweet with plenty of places to eat. It was also close enough to walk to the Pearl district and downtown.
We would definitely come back and stay with Mary Anne the next time we're in Portland
Great location, cool and funky old house,
My friend and I had a great time at Mary Anne's place. She is friendly and easy going. The attic space was large and the bed comfortable. There is a bathroom on the 2nd floor and one on the 1st floor. There were 3 other renters while we were there but it was fine to share the bathrooms. Our location was perfect. Thanks Mary Anne for hosting us!

Very comfortable house just a couple blocks from dining & shopping on 23rd (it's also next to a decent diner.) It's a convenient to the bus and street car or a 15-20 minute walk downtown and to the Pearl district, if the weather is good. There's a mellow dog and a very friendly cat and my room was clean and cozy. Both Mary Anne and the other lodger there during my stay were very welcoming.
A beautiful house with a lovely, hospitable host. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay. The house is located in a great neighborhood with TONS of fun, walkable destinations nearby. I would definitely stay there again.
Mary Anne's place was perfect for the my girlfriend and my needs while we visited Portland for a week. We spent most of our waking hours outside, but it was a very cozy and welcoming place for us to come home to and wake up in. We stayed in the bedroom pictured with a dog painting. The bed was very comfortable and full of pillows, and there was a closet for us to use which was convenient. The room had a great corner-house view North and East facing the street, letting in plenty of sunlight. The door did not have a separate lock and key as this home appears to be designed for a family, but this was not a problem for us. The neighborhood is very quiet at night despite it being only a block away from some popular bars, cafes, and restaurants. Each morning we were greeted by her friendly and well-behaved cat (Sophie) and dog (Charlie). They were really cute.
Her house is located in a great area of NorthWest Portland -close enough to downtown by walking or public transit, while still affording a safe and neighborhood feel. It is also close to Forest Park, and near many bike-routes. By bicycle you can get nearly anywhere central in Portland in under 20 minutes (even if you are going across bridges). I highly recommend renting bikes if you are staying for a week. People in Portland are really really friendly, and our stay with Mary Anne was no different. We are very happy to have stayed here!
Wonderful location next to 23rd, which has a wonderful selection of bars, restaurants and shops. Mary Anne was very pleasent, though I was kinda bummed didn't get a chance to really chat with her because I was constantly on the go. I really liked how the house was decorated. Even though I popped in and out at all sorts of hours and it was nice having a place not too far from some late night bars. I rented a car, and was able to find parking pretty easily next to her place, which was a nice bonus.
There was also an adorable cat and dog there. Was hard to get away from them!
Great space, great views, great location.
Mary Anne was very nice and took care of us. The place was quite calm and we had a great time in Portland.
My stay was not a happy one.
Although Mary Anne's house is beautiful there are many flaws.
I strongly believe that I elected a different room than I was finally shown (however, I have no prove and consequently did not complain!)
The room couldn't be locked which I first did not mind because it is a family home. However, I soon found out that several renters and Mary Anne's clients from outside come to the house. Unfortunately, Mary Anne is seldom around and there is nobody to discuss or solve these issues!
Another major flaw is that there is only 1 shower (actually 1 bath tub with shower - not suitable for anyone with a mobility problem) for I do not know how many people (at least 3, may be 4 or 5). There is no space provided for the renters' personal belongings. Quite the opposite the bathroom is clogged with damaged furniture cluttering the space even more.
$ 69 is way too high for a simple room that cannot be locked and does not come with any service!!!!!
After 3 days, I left the house key on the table and happily moved to a private room rented out by the hostels providing the same basic rooms but far better service
