We rented La Casa Las Palomas for 16 days in February. It is very nice, typically Mexican, beautifully decorated partly with the owner’s own paintings. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining room table is great to invite people over for dinner. The rooftop terrace is great to sit in the sun, read and exchange experiences and tips with the people renting La Casita and the Apartment. The space is well designed in the sense that all can enjoy privacy if they want, but also share common outside space. It is not direct in Centro, but within easy walking distance. We ended up walking most of the time, except to go to places outside the centre such as the botanical gardens and the Tuesday market. For those who don’t want to walk, there are many taxis and frequent buses, both safe and cheap.
We did not meet Ricardo and Joyce (and this is why La Casa was available, as this is their own place in San Miguel), as they were in Canada when we were there. Their housekeeper Alicia was there to welcome us when we arrived, and she came by regularly to ensure everything was ok. We also had her phone number in case we needed anything but did not have to call her.
Oerall a very good experience at Casa Las Palomas.
The reservation was canceled 37 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I felt welcomed by just walking up the street to la Paloma. It was alive with people at work and children coming back from school, a few dogs barking and a rooster crowing. I felt like I was really in Mexico. Ricardo and Joyce are perfect hosts...there when needed and doing there own thing when not. Their touches through out the property are very homey Mexican, between Ricardos artistic touches and Joyce's wonderful gardens, there's lots to catch your eye. Rooms are cozy and bright., and a spectacular view from the upper patio. The lower common is full of plants and natural light and always seems to be the gathering place for impromto dinners and fun. Your hosts are multi lingual and know the city and many of the artists and cafes well.the patios both afford getaway corners to curl up in the sun. It is a short and very interesting walk to town through the districts, or just a fun bus ride, or taxis are cheap. Have a fun stay as I did at la Paloma.....Rain
Totally felt great and welcomed by Ricardo y Joyce. I booked a month at the casita. Took the time to write a screenplay. Exploring San Miguel was delicious. Fantastic city.
The digs were amazing. Hummingbirds in the morning and whooshes of hot air balloons at dawn.
I had a great time staying here.
Chances are... I'll be back!
This was the perfect place to stay, for me and my friend! Housekeeper Alicia made us welcome, along with the neighbor (also Alicia!) The place was decorated in my favorite style- colors galore, and the location was perfect! As described, the house contains everything you need to cook a bit for yourselves when you don't want to be enjoying the excellent restaurants of San Miguel de Allende. We enjoyed the patios and views, having laundry capability is a real plus as well. Ricardo was there during our stay and we enjoyed some time with him as well as seeing his painting.
Thanks for the great review Bonnie. Best of luck with your place too !
I had a wonderful stay at Casa Las Palomas! I spent almost 3 weeks here while exploring the lovely town of San Miguel. It is a short walking distance to the market, el centro and el jardin and all the great shops and restaurants in that area. Also within a few minutes of a Pollo Feliz express location where you can grab a delicious rotisserie chicken for dinner! Alicia the housekeeper was very helpful and always available to clean and wash laundry when asked. Big plus: as a solo female traveler, I felt quite safe here, even walking back home a few times after dark. You will love the apartment, it's just as it looks in the pictures - colorful, bright and clean!
Casa Las Palomas was the perfect home away from home for exploring San Miguel. Between adventures, we enjoyed the Nest and the apartment's patio and daybed for meals, siestas and sunsets. Inside is quaint and cheerful, with the best beds ever! Canal was a pleasant, walkable route to the Historic Center and other neighborhoods (even with a 7 year-old), as well as a great source for delicious fresh tortillas, tamales, roasted chicken, and pastries. While we didn't meet Ricardo & Joyce, they were very accommodating, responsive and helpful in planning our trip. Alicia and her family were also lovely. We highly recommend Casa las Palomas!
San Miguel is a magical place, even more special during Dia de los Muertos, which extended 4 days. Some of our family's favorites: Museo de los Jugetes (toys); Canada de la Virgen archaeological tour by Albert Coffee; the playground at Parque Juarez; affordable, handcrafted Catrinas, dolls, jewelry in the studio/gallery at the back of Casa Norman, followed by churros y chocolate on San Francisco; Plaza Civica; Belles Artes; gift shopping along Zacaterias en route to Instituto Allende, nearby Saturday organic market & The Beer Company; Mama Mia for pizza, margaritas & mezcal; Primera Plus bus from/to Mexico City.
Thank you, we're already dreaming about our next trip!
We just returned from two lovely weeks as guests in The Casita. The space was very comfortable, clean and spacious, with a very well equipped kitchen. We took full advantage of the roof top terrace morning and late afternoon, with wonderful views of the surrounding hills and downtown; the sunsets being a highlight along with the early morning birds. Alicia, the housekeeper gave us a warm welcome and was nearby when we needed her. She cooked a lovely caldo de pollo for us, which we shared with our neighbour in the Casa, on the terrace just outside our door. The neighbourhood is quiet enough, with shops nearby and feels safe at all hours. We walked to el centro in 15 minutes or took taxis. La Casita is very conveniently located a 15 minute walk to the central bus station, which we used to go to Guanajuato and Dolores Hidalgo. We loved San Miguel and look forward to returning soon.
There is one word for this gorgeous little enclave. "OASIS!" Absolutely lovely property with beautiful gardens and roof deck.
Apartment has everything you need and is artistically decorated. Kitchen equipped for cooking any type of meal. Sweet little neighborhood away from noise and yet easy walk to wonderful markets full of fresh produce etc. Ricardo is a warm, responsive and helpful host. Highly recommended!
Oh Sara, wonderful review. Thank you and so glad you are enjoying our house.
Until next time,
Ricardo was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The apartment was even more charming than what showed on the photos. The place is beautifully and very tastefully decorated. It is warm, colorfoul and full of light and plants everywhere. I loved the patios, the sun, the plants and the art.
Ricardo and his friend's stay at our condo went without a hitch. There was a lot of communication surrounding this visit because of changed plans etc., but everything was done in a timely and easy fashion. The condo was left in excellent shape when they finished their stay. We would recommend Ricardo to any airbnb hosts ready this review.
Ricardo and Joyce are two very passionate and talented people who welcome friends, family and even strangers into their homes with love and open arms. together they have created 3 beautiful spaces in San Miguel and i would say that the experience of enjoying what they have created will make you not ever want to leave! Every square inch has been carefully thought out and built, decorated, hand artistry painted and overflowing with the most beautiful floral and greens. Ricardo and Joyce are two lovely people and i would highly highly recommend you visit and stay in any one of their accommodations in San MIguel. i have stayed with them both in their home away from home and home and the stay is always super sweet, lovely and enjoyable.
Ricardo is such a lovely man! A great communicator, super artistic/talented, very calm, patient, and respectful. I've known Ricardo for years from work. His place in San Miguel is absolutely fantastic and quiet! I stayed there for a few days and had a great experience - very close to everything, beautiful and big. Great value! Much better than a hotel!
