It's hard to choose the best part of our fabulous stay in an indescribable place, but first, I couldn't recommend these rooms more. Heading down the cliff out of the village of Ravdoucha are 4 switchbacks, each revealing breathtaking views. At the dead end is Ravdoucha beach (you'll probably see goats on the way!) and a nice room with views of the cliff behind and the rocky beach and sea from a lovely deck in front. Look up from the beach, and you may spot the outline of a goat contemplating the scene from the cliffs high above. That would be enough, but below the room is Thodoris and Rodo's taverna, "Wave on the Rock," where Rodo is the star. She moves gracefully between visitors, family, friends, and neighbors, making all feel welcome (email hidden) facilities in the room are basic, but we were far more interested in bringing home some ideas for Mediterranean cooking at home. Rodo was happy to share "secrets" of Cretan fare, which is a delicious, hearty, and fundamental variant of this uber-healthy regional cuisine. We ate at several other places while we were out and about. All were good, but none better than what was being served by Rodo, and her food came with generous servings of warmth and hospitality, so we always came back. My wife wanted to bring her home, but I had to tell her Thodoris and the rest of Rodo's family might object. Besides, it's probably illegal.
And then at your doorstep and beyond Ravdoucha Beach there is Crete. Go... it's amazing.
Rodo is a fantastic and generous host and her place in Ravducha is full of charm. Situated directly on the beach in a secluded area it's a great place to spend a few days. We stayed longer than we planned and Rodo was full of ideas and tips for walking tours we could take in the vicinity.
We had a wonderfull time at Rodos place and she is the most wonderfull host you can imagine. Sweet, caring and interested, trying to make our stay as nice as possible and always working hard. There is a nice Taverna downstairs and the food (best seafood!) is sooo good! Everything is very "real", organic, seasonal and regional, often harvested by herself. Many locals come down to eat here, too - mostly on the weekends.
The area is quite, right by the sea (swimming!) and surrounded by hills/mountains (hiking!). Rodo gave us many good info about the area (also the inland, which is amazing!) and even made lunch packages for us (which we were very happy to have during our hikes!). Thank you for this awesome time, I couldnt recommend more! :-)
We loved our stay here, in spite of the unseasonably cold February weather. Rodo made us feel very welcome with generous trays of local food, wine and good conversation. Their attached restaurant has a nice atmosphere with a view of the water, and Rodo is a spectacular cook! If we come back to Crete we will definitely stay again at this beautiful and secluded place.
j'ai rarement eu l'occasion de rencontrer des personnes aussi spontanément accueillante et chaleureuse. Merci pour ce beau séjour.
This place is an escape from any hustle! The wonderful view and the big balcony to enjoy it where the only thing you hear is the sound of waves Small nice beach and lots of shadow to escape the sun, if its too much.
Great family-run taverna on the first floor to offer breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is no WIFI, but this is probably a good thing, which make you stay away of the internet.
This is a unique setting for experiencing Crete, far from the tumult and noise of the cities. We arrived after midnight and were warmly greeted by Rodo. The location is both spectacular and restful, with the only sounds at night being the water on the rocks. The hospitality was truly extraordinary.
The place is located at the end of the road, and it's perfect for those who look for a quiet and relaxing stay. The rooms are basic and clean and the view from the balcony is beautiful! Rodo is charming and wellcomming, and gave us a lot of great infomation. She and the rest of the staf made us feel like home.
The food in the tavern is fresh and tasty.
One important thing - the beach is very rocky, and it's very hard to walk into the water without sandals or other special shoes.
I hope that Rodo never change this place! A taverna with some simply rooms at the end of a quiet road.
Clear water, peaceful and clean pebble beach, good greek food and sleeping with the sound of waves.
Rodo was busy but always very kind and friendly.
Nearby, a few meters, some new rooms of his brother.
Thodoris & Rodo are the perfect hosts for an authentic Cretan village experience. I have gotten to known them closely over the past 10 years, as my husband and I have been visiting their establishment for day trips during which we combine the beach, delicious meals, and good company at their taverna. Here we meet their loyal guests who happily return year after year to get away from it all and can depend on Rodo and Thodori to be there for them. Thodoris and Rodo are the true embodiment of Greek hospitality, and their apartments together with their taverna are all that one could wish for in order to experience the "real Greece"!
