Hi, I'm from Finland, I live in San Francisco and I have a house for rent in Guanajuato Mexico.
The house was great! Not only was it beautiful, but the view it has from the balcony is amazing. I stayed for 6 days and probably my only complain is that I couldn't stay longer with my family. My family and I are def planning to go back and stay at Iikka's house!
Had an excellent stay at Iikka's place in Guanajuato. Iikka responded to all inquiries quickly and gave a great restaurant recommendation as well (Casa Valadez). This place would be difficult to find the first time, so it was very helpful meeting Leonor at the Mummy Museum. Upon arrival, Leonor gave us a tour of the house, and we were given fresh towels and the bed was clean and made up. The bathroom is a bit small and the water pressure is okay, but it was very clean and there were extra rolls of toilet paper. There are instructions for wi-fi next to the computer; however, the wireless SSID & Password listed on the instructions were incorrect, so I used the SSID & Password listed directly on the router & I was connected to wi-fi in no time.
The house is only about a mile from the center of town (if that), and if you need to take a cab, it's only about 30-40 pesos ($2-4) to anywhere in town (Note: cabs do not have meters, so make sure you ask the price before getting in). The view of Guanajuato from this house is stunning, day and night, and it's in a very safe area.
I would definitely recommend Iikka's place. He was very helpful and friendly through email and responded quickly to my emails, and Leonor was very pleasant and helpful upon arrival (fortunately my wife is fluent in Spanish, so that helped in communicating with Leonor).
Thanks to Iikka & Leonor!
We had a wonderful stay! My two best friends and I stayed in this great home for 4 days this February. The weather was perfect, so we were thrilled to stay in a home with so much outdoor space - we left the windows and doors open most of the time, had our breakfast out on the back patio, and a glass of wine up on the balcony at night looking out at the beautiful city lights.
Leonor was very prompt in meeting us at the mummy museum - and very helpful in showing us around the house and the town. (good to note - she speaks very little English - our Spanish is ok and between the 3 of us we were fine, but if you speak little to no Spanish, it is a good idea to have a translating app on your phone to help you out)
Iikka was also very helpful in the lead up to the trip - he answered all of my questions about the house and the town - as this was our first visit to Guanajuato, it was nice to get a few tips from someone who has been traveling there for over a decade.
The stairs leading up to the house are no joke - I'm pretty sure we all lost a few pounds during our stay - but we loved staying in this neighborhood and feeling like locals - we took a different set of stairs each time we ventured out, and really felt at home after a couple of days - we were definitely sad to leave.
There is a great little store just a few steps away from the house that Leonor can point out - it is very convenient for picking up a few groceries, or if you run out of something like eggs, milk, tortillas, beverages, etc.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Guanajuato is an absolutely stunning and fascinating city. The locals are incredibly friendly - you really get the sense that everyone wants to help you to have a great visit - they are very proud of their city and they should be. I can't wait to go back - and I will be staying in Iikka's house again!
Ikka's home in Guanajuato was just as he described. The house is very nice and has lovely views and outside areas. The kitchen is not fully equipped for a lot of cooking, but then again street food and restaurants in this town are plentiful. It's a pretty far walk into the center of town, so be prepared. Leonor is very nice and helpful. The two bedrooms were nice and cozy.
The flat has 3 bedrooms, a patio, a balcony, and great views. Leonor met us at the Museo de las Momias, which is a good thing since it is impossible to find the way to the flat though the walkways on (website hidden) maps. The center of town is within easy walking distance.
Iikka was very responsive via email with any questions we had. This was a great airbnb experience!
It is a nice house, clean and organized. Leonor gave us the keys after calling her to her cellphone. The photos are a little bit old, because the house has changed (it's more nice now). It has 3 bedrooms, one has 2 single beds, the other one has 1 double bed, and one small bedroom with one single bed. I would recommend this house if you like to walk or want to take a bus or taxi, it's like 10 min walking to Mercado Hidalgo, and there are like 100 steps (stairs) from the front street to the house (it's on a hill).
So, if walking it's not a problem for you, this one is cheap and nice choice.
The house was in a great location - just 10 minutes walk into the centre and right by the mummy museum. Iikka was very helpful in the lead up to our trip, and Leonor his house manager also once we had arrived. The house is up quite a strenuous set of stairs (which you need to walk up as there is no car access), but the property gave great views from the balcony of the whole city. Thanks Iikka!
The house is clean, comfortable, and has beautiful views. A bargain.
I traveled with my parents in mexico and stayed in this lovely house while in Guanajuato. It has a well-attended yard that provides some calm and quietness away from the busy town life. I didn't meet Iikka, his housekeeper Leonor took care of the meet and greet at our arrival. I wish I could speak more Spanish as she does not speak English. Iikka did help on getting us meet at the right place and right time. Water is rationed so there are days we had to rely on water storage tank, which made us a little nervous about using water, although at the end it was fine. We wish there could be a few more convenience items such as toilet paper, and basic condiments (more than just salt), that would make the life of the guests much easier.
