Living in Bora Bora Island since 28 years...Always a great pleasure to receive and drive guests in my little lodge...
I LOVE the Sunset Hill Lodge. Gerard is so great! Highest rating possible
Gerard is a wonderful host and his place has everything one would need. I was traveling solo and the place suited me perfectly. He's got everything you could reasonably expect including aircon, cooking facilities and a nice outside area to appreciate the views, entertain if you so desire. He is also close to the Mai Kai yacht club which serves fantastic meals and is recommended in the latest Lonely Planet guidebook. He's also close to the #1 ranked restaurant on tripadvisor. Gerard also has great links with tour operators and you will not find better rates than he can arrange.
Nice bungalow in a beautiful garden. In Vaitape, close to shops and the port, easily accessible thanks to the bicycles Gerard makes available to their hosts. The little house has all you need for a independent stay. We stay for one night only but we do feel that Gerard is very hospital and kind, available also to transport us to the ferry.
C'est super! Tres gentile! shhhhh.....don't tell anyone because I want to come back and I want to have the place to return to.
Shhhhhhh....I want to come back. If I tell everyone how great it is there will be no place left for me.....
The Sunset Hill Lodge is a true gem of a hotel on Bora Bora. Gerard is a fantastic host whose not only committed to making sure his guests are happy, but is just a nice guy to talk to as well. He's got a number of connections across the island for any kind of activity you want, (diving, excursions, jungle treks, restaurants, etc.) and will set it up for you without the outrageous markup you see at the resorts.
Included as part of your stay, are access to beach cruiser bikes which is a great way to see the island (and burn off the massive quantities of bread you'll be eating). Also Gerard has kayaks and took us to a place where we could paddle out to deserted islands with awesome snorkeling. Really...it's refreshing to see someone who loves what they do and wants to make sure that his guests get the most of Bora Bora.
The rooms themselves are very comfortable with most of the usual amenities including a kitchen. Its walking distance to two great restaurants and a grocery store so having the option to go out for dinner or cook-in was a big plus. Set on a hill with an awesome view of the bay, it started to become more and more like home for us during our stay (it was actually really hard for us to leave because we loved it so much).
We found this place through Air BnB but there are more reviews (all of them four and five stars) on trip advisor. Just look up Sunset Hill Lodge.
Bottom line...if you're looking to experience the real Bora Bora look no further than Sunset Hill Lodge.
Response from Gérard:
Merci, j'espère vous revoir un jour .....
Studio très propre et confortable.
Gérard, l'hôte, est très gentil, disponible et a été très accommodant avec nous.
Without a doubt the best deal on Bora Bora. Gerard is a super attentive host and goes the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your time in the island. Besides the fact that his place is walking distance to a supermarket (he provides pots and pans so you can cook at the bungalow), he has bikes available at no charge and is willing to give you a ride if possible. There's also a fun bar/restaurant with live music on weekends within a 5 minutes walk from the house. I've been to 6 islands on my trip to French Polynesia and Gerard was the best host of all by far!
