Very smooth arrival and departure. I visited NYC for 3 days with my girlfriend to catch up with some old friends living in Brooklyn. Carlos' apartment is very welcoming. I felt like I had lots of space, and there was no noise. The place was nice and clean for us. The vibe is relaxed and cool. And the bed is huge! The subway is 5 minutes walk away. You feel like you're actually living in a nice place in New York.
Carlos also left a list for us with several good local places in the neighborhood for eating, shopping, having a drink, and going out. When Carlos is out of town shooting films, his roommate helps coordinate everything. I definitely had a better experience staying in this apartment than I would have had at a hotel.
Overall evaluation: Highly recommended!
The apartment is very close to the subway. You can get to Downtown in 20 mins. The room is really nice: has an amazing view on Brooklyn. Carlos was not in the apt while i was there, but her friend was very kind to welcome me.
I stayed 5 nights at Carlos Amaral's place together with my girlfriend. That was my first (adult) visit in NYC, and the experience was very good.
Williamsburg was a recommendation of a friend, and that was exactly what I expected. This area is such kind of new trendy neighbourhood, full of hipsters, nice restaurants, and somewhat quiet regarding to Manhattan.
About the place, the room was clean and perfect for a couple. Carlos and his roommates are nice and they match the williamsburg style. We haven't meet them a lot since we spent most of our time visiting. Personally used to roommates, I felt like at home, free to come and go (we had our keys), and not feeling disturbing the live of others. Exactly what I expect for an Air bnb experience.
Carlos compiled a list of recommendations about the Bedford area, this was very helpful, as well as the time he spent to show us the map of the area. We followed some of his recommendation and that was always good choices. I would add a place which is not on the list : The Zizi limonar on Hevermeyer st: Perfect lunch / brunch place. And do not forget to visit the flea market during week-ends !
About the location: The place is easy to access with subways. One night we came back late with a Taxi from Greenwich and it costs about $12. Street cleaning is not exactly as in Upper East Side, but that's not what we were looking for...
So if you want to live in the hipster side of Brooklin, I definitely recommend to stay there.
Carlos was an excellent host! It was a last minute booking, and I needed a comfortable and safe place to stay in NYC. He was not only quick to respond, but very hospitable. New sheets and fresh towels were ready when I arrived, and everything was cleaned and organized. He was really nice about letting me have access to the kitchen, guitar, record player, and his netflix account. He also wrote up a list of cool places to check out in Williamsburg. I didn't stay long enough to get through the entire list, but his recommendations were just what I was looking for.
I would definitely recommend Carlos' place. His (website hidden) are really great and chill people too.
Carlos is a good host. Offered use of an in-Room iMac for web browsing or complimentary Netflix account. The bed was big and very comfy. And the room was clean. In fact a housekeeper was preparing the room when I arrived.
Carlos' room was exactly as pictured/described. It was clean and comfortable, exactly what I needed.
Carlos and his crew did a video shoot at our house they were totally professional, treated our house with respect. We would welcome him and his crew back anytime.
