If you're the kind of person that could stay at a camping during your city-trip, then this is for you. I'm not. I thought: 'Cool, a house boat', but it's actually a boat with a bed in it's hull. I had fun in London, but feel the need to put things that great photo's can present back into perspective.
The photo's are made with one of those camera's that make the space look bigger than it is. In small spaces this distorts the reality too much. Reality is that you cannot stand up straight in this boat. The width is similar to a corridor. The bed mattress is 120 x 180, but the thing holding the mattress is even smaller (the bed is rotated from how it's placed on the photo, now occupying nearly the whole space). There is also more furniture now stuffing the boat and the owner even stores things there. The toilet is standing in a closet: if you use it you'll be sitting with your back in that closet but the rest of you exposed in the open room. The shower is small: comparable to the depth of a book cabinet, and gets even smaller towards the top. See that cushion on the picture, that's the size of the shower.
The photo's also look light, while the boat's interior is actually really dark. It smelled like old things.
There is only one power socket, for example to charge your phone, but you can't do that during the night, because the power socket makes noise.
The boat was moored in Shoreditch, a cool neighbourhood; which was, kind of, the worst: cool people passing by, joking about those silly tourists staying in that tiny little boat. For reference: imagine seeing two tourists walking out of a tent in front of your house: that is a good comparison.
I think the owner should manage expectations better with updated photo's (put a person in the photo, so one can see the correct dimensions), and show really how dark it is in there.
It was like camping on the wather but in a nice and charming way. All places arround Victoria Park / East End where the boat was moored are good for great adventures.
It was our first stay on a boat but we would love to come back. One last thing which is good to know about cruising holiday booked with Queen Boudicca: it is better to wait for warmer weather. It is more fun and more comfortable especially if one want to spend some time also during the day for a moment of relax.

It's what it is. A small, cosy boat, with basic facilities. Wouldn't want to have to shower in it every day, or leave valuables in it when I'm not there. But I didn't need either of those, it was in a very central location, and a new experience. Cold winter nights in a little boat with a roaring fire are really nice. Warmer times could be lying on the roof with a cold beer. Perhaps a little over priced, when a reasonable hotel in the area was only a little more, but there we go. It's something different and I'm very happy I tried it. Matt's a nice guy, and if you need guidance and tourist info I'm sure he'd be a good person for that.

As this was my first ever AirBnB-trip I can`t really compare. But all I can say is: I just cannot believe that all AirBnB locations and hosts are that great. Matt and his lovely roommates made me feel at home from the first second. They were all so kind and well educated, we had lots of things to talk about. The appartment and my room were as cozy as you can see in the pictures. The neighborhood is calm, beautiful and close to the underground. For that price you really cannot ask for more. This was a business trip, but I will definitely return with my family for a recreational visit.
Location was great, shower was cold. I didn't meet Matt, but his flatmates were very helpful, they suggested some places that I wouldn't've found on my own! Worth the stay for the weekend.
First off, this review is kind of confusing as I stayed on Matt's houseboat on the Regent's Canal and not in the property shown here. Overall I had a very good experience. I was a bit stressed the day that I reached London and it took me a while to get my "canal legs" so to speak... Matt has left instructions and they are fairly comprehensive. I would say, however, that they are not fully idiot proof and it did take me some time to work out the various intricacies of getting everything to work properly. Once that was sorted out, I couldn't have been happier with the accommodation. If you are a big lad such as me, the boat is a little bit on the poky side. However, the bed is comfortable, the location is unique and for your own ship in a really cool part of London it is a really good deal...
Staying for 5 days on Matt’s beautiful Queen Boudicca has been a wonderful experience. It was moored in the Regents Canal in the beautiful Victoria Park, really close to Bethnal Green underground station, a very interesting area. It is peaceful but not isolated or even quiet – the place is full of runners, people walking their dogs, mothers with children in strollers, et cetera. And plenty of people living on all the narrow boats along the canal.
Staying on the boat itself is great. The only thing that didn’t work so well on the boat was the BT internet connection but there are plenty of cool cafés and taverns in the neighbourhood with free WIFI so this wasn’t really a problem for me. Other than that: the heating, the cooktop, the shower with warm water – everything worked well. You can get the boat nicely warm on a cold morning or night – when I came here last week, winter announced itself so I was very glad about this.
Matt has been very helpful, always replied immediately when I had a question. I would recommend staying on his boat to all people who are not looking for great luxury or 5 star hotel comfort but rather for an alternative, more adventurous, and meaningful experience. I myself will definitely want to come back here.
Lovely time on Matt's boat. Moored in an ideal spot close to Islington, lively high street with great public transport.
Matt and his freinds were very tidy and considerate guests. I hope they enjoyed their stay. I would recommend Matt as an excellent guest.
Matt was easy to communicate with and left the house clean and tidy.
A nice and friendly person that we recommend without hesitation.
Matt is such a great guest, and although his visit was short- would welcome him back , and recommend him to any other hosts.
As a Airbnb employee, Matt was a perfect guest, very congenial and helpful and gave me good advice about the site and hosting. I thank him also for leaving the kitchen spotless. It was a real pleasure to have him and his friend here and I hope he will come back. Véronique
J'ai été ravi de faire connissance de Matt et Johnny, des vrai globetrotter, consiliant, ouvert, agréable.
Matt and Alexandra came for skiing to Bled, but they wouldn't miss the rowing on the lake. The weather was perfect. I look forward to their visit this summer. Lora, December 2012
