The place was nice and clean, just as expected. It was very conveniently located right next to Balboa park which made traveling very easy, and, in keeping with our preference, the place was located in a quaint part of town with fun little restaurants and shops in walking distance, and removed from the busy streets of downtown San Diego.
The only bummer was that the internet at Jen's place was very unreliable. My iPhone, iPad, and Mac were not able to connect at all for the majority of our stay. I only got internet on day 1, and even then it was spotty.
I stayed here with my girlfriend and her mother and there was plenty of space for all of us. It is located in a great location for South Park (plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants within walking distance).
Jen's duplex is fantastic! Great location in a fun neighborhood. Very spacious and comfortable with lots of stuff in the kitchen if you decide to cook at home. Although, with all the great eateries and places to hang out nearby, why would you want to?
Unfortunately, the wifi works sporadically, but who needs wifi when you're in San Diego?
Jen was easy to communicate with and we were able to book the place only a couple days before arrival. Thanks again Jen.
Jen's place was perfect for our needs. It is a very functional space and had everything we needed. The neighborhood is very cool. Jen was responsive with questions, etc, and her sixth star goes for shipping my brother's ipod back to him that he had left in the house. Thanks Jen!
This is a large, generally comfortable, two bedroom in a residential area called Normal Heights. It was attractive to us because of its location, particularly proximity to the Adams Avenue shopping area, which has restaurants, shops, and an art gallery all within about four blocks of the house. The owner warns, correctly, that tenants need to bring their own hand soap, shampoo, and like that. We were a bit surprised that there was almost no toilet paper, as well. We had not trouble communicating with the owner about a couple of matters--access to the house and the location of the washer and dryer.
Meh, disappointing. Yes, it was affordable and in a nice neighborhood location. That being said, renters should know the following:
We did not hear from Jen about how to access the apartment until 11:17 p.m. the night before our arrival. This was after I emailed her a week in advance and twice the day before. I also texted her, which is how I got her to respond. She said she would not be meeting us, that she was out of the country, and gave us information about how to get in and access the wi-fi (which ended up being a little spotty).
When we arrived, I was instantly irritated by the lack of basic essentials. There was no toilet paper, trash bags, hand soap, etc. We've used vacation rentals many times in the past and we've never expereinced this.
In addition, the apartment wasn't very clean. The kitchen and bathroom were a little grimy, the shower curtain had a hole in it, the beds were sloppily made, the couch was disheveled and worst of all, there were flies everywhere that pestered us the whole time we were there.
A few other issues worth mentioning: the microwave burns extra hot, one of the burners on the stove doesn't light properly, the beds are small/short, there's no TV channels (only a Roku player), and the ceiling fan in the dining room should be avoided. When we tried using it, it shook so badly that we thought it was going to drop off the ceiling and the light bulb is literally hanging on by a thread.
Overall, this is a shell of a vacation rental with zero hospitality. The thing we love about vacation rentals is that they often become our "home away from home." This apartment is not one of those rentals. I would not recommend it and we will not be returning.
fantastic little apartment in a lovely neighborhood, and Jen answered any questions we had very swiftly...the place was more than adequate for the three of us, plenty of cafe's and shops within walking distance too...we will definitely consider using this place again
This is my second time staying at Jen's house. That should say everything. I loved it the first time and just as good the second. It is my go to place when I am in San Diego.
Spacious rental in a brilliant location! It suited the 3 of us perfectly (2 adults and a child). South Park is a lovely area, definitely try out the Daily Scoop on Juniper, best ice cream ever! Easy access to all San Diego has to offer. Communication with Jen was easy. Thank you for a great trip!
Apartment was in a great neighbourhood, if you know the area. Cool restaurants, shops and bars nearby. For real tourists of San Diego, it is a bit tucked in. Apartment itself was clean and host was very accommodating.
The towels were quite icky and we rewashed them upon arrival, but it didn't seem to help. Also not all the windows locked properly and the were a bit warped, in need of a refurbishment. Internet (wi-fi) was not reliable at all.
All in all though it was a good stay.
Thanks for the candid feedback. I'm sorry you couldn't have informed me about the towels right away rather than after your stay. I would've been more than happy to supply you with new ones. I'll definitely look into the wi-fi and the window locks.
