Bonjours a tous, Hi everyone,
My love Charyl, family and I, live in the beautiful foothills of the Cape Breton Highlands, famous and world renowned for it's Cabot Trail.
Charyl and I were born and raised by separate families with similar businesses. Our bloodlines date back to 1930's with cabins and restaurants. Charyl, originally from Labrador City, Newfoundland, came to Nova Scotia with her family and to continue her field of studies in the education system for employment. Today Charyl is a 16 yrs veteran school teacher with a BA Major in Political Science, Minor in Womens History, Bachelor of Education and is master in music/art/entertainment. Charyl is all about family.
We are blessed with seven beautiful children, a drive and passion to succeed in life and retire in the cottage spa/hostel/campground travel tourism industry.
Myself after spending 15 yrs in Canada's oil, gas, mining industry and recent loss of my dad and grandma to sickness, I decided to retire from work and get grounded back to my roots. Living the life securing a future and home for our children is our dream and life long passion to existence.
We reap what we sow. Build and they shall come. Teach them and they shall know. Reward them and they will do. Love them and they shall return:) Give them food and they shall not hunger. If the laws of physics allow it, it can be done;)
We are Native Acadians fluent in French and English. We love to host people from around the world with our layed back rustic lifestyle. Lobster and crab boils, wild choke cherry wine, bon fires, hiking, biking, fishing, music, camping out at the beach, fresh seafood, wild game, wild blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, apples, mushrooms, fiddle heads, organic eggs, chicken, and organic vegetables from our garden quenched with pure ice cold artesian H20, is our way of life.
Over a century ago La Prairie Chalet was a little woodshop way up on the mountainside. Sixty years later was hauled down mountainside by steers next to the stream and converted to a 1 1/2 level bungalow with outhouse in back yard and cold storage in the hillside. Today after many renovations and transformations, La Prairie Chalet was handcrafted as a spa getaway.
Today I consider myself a true historian and jack of all trades, fixing, restoring and rebuiding just about anything. Recycling, upcycling, giving old things a new look, purpose and meaning is a life long passion.
La Prairie Chalet is a little piece of history on the Cabot Trail and the gateway to all recreational trails on the Island. It's conveniently located to walk, hike, bike, drive, swim, fish or dive only minutes away the Park, Gypsum Mine Lake, downtown, our 25 acre farm, beaches, streams and lakes. The Old Railroad Trail, is newly developed recreational trail which extends from La Prairie Chalet to Gypsum Mine Lake and Cheticamps downtown waterfront. Gypsum Mine Lake is a natural man made lake spa which dips high in concentrations of calcium leaving your skin and body distressed, rejuvenated and subtle soft. It's indigo blue body of water wrapped with gypsum deposits and evergreens has been said to be sacred by our Micmac elders.
This year we begin construction phase 1 of Accolade Hostel and Retreat Campground located on our 25 acre farmstead. We strive for change, to bring travelers back in time of the horse and wagon days with a historical twist of food, entertainment and as a green thumb operator in the industry.
Things I cannot live without, ma petite Pocohonta Charyl, our children, family, friends and animals.
We welcome you to come and experience our life here at La Prairie Chalet.
Take your time, relax and unwind, even if it means taking extra time for your stay. There is lots to see and do, we will make sure of it!
