Response from Nadiya:
Jamie stayed at our place for two nights. In explanation to his complaints, I should say that the house was cleaned prior to his arrival. The kitchen and toilet floors washed/vacuumed, all surfaces wiped and disinfected, toilets same, mirrors all cleaned, bins emptied and cleaned. Brand new duvet and pillow covers were provided. Breakfast (Museli, Milk, Tea, Coffee etc) although not stated as amenities by the host were provided just to please guests and set a good impression. It is quite irrational to expect windows to be cleaned on a daily basis. Windows, from the outside, in any house get cleaned seasonally at most. Rubbish gets removed weekly (Tuesdays) in Wellington. There was no rubbish within the house at all. All dry rubbish (recycled) was placed outside in the corner of the garden ready for collection (This is not a commercial hotel, this is somebody’s home). Dehumidifiers are an essential part of everyone's home here in New Zealand due to the dampness caused by the climate, and we are no exception (i.e. dehumidifier was provided). All previous guests have been more than happy as is evident from the reviews.
There have been many times when we have not been happy with guests/hosts behavior/service/house and vice versa, but “manners” have required us (and everybody else on airbnb in fact) to discreetly tell the guests or hosts to avoid tension and help resolve matters quicker or to tell them in a way in which they would not lose face. Jamie however, is unbelievably rude and bad with communication (answering calls and text messages, kept me waiting a whole day despite having called and texted him many times).
He paid 80 NZ dollars per night for a one bedroom apartment fully furnished which is the same price for a single room in a student backpackers with a shared bathroom here in Wellington. For around 70 NZ dollars you can get 2 bunk beds in a backpackers in a room shared with two others. People on AIR BNB host a variety of accommodation, from campsites, to garden sheds, to 500 dollar per night mansions.
