Music, theater, film, art, books, dance, politics, bicycles, motorcycles, people. In roughly that order. Transplant to LA from DC and Cleveland.
Most importantly the place was very quiet - set back from the street considerably. Second, and also very wonderful - the place is completely private - so you can act "at home" and not wonder if the neighbors are watching!
We chose this spot because of it's central location to all the botanical gardens and museums we wanted to visit.
John was accessible and was able to make sure we had everything we needed very quickly - even when we had a special request. He also made sure I was able to take care of a business meeting - with his kind help.
The bathroom was spacious and large, and the "office space" was completely available to us to set up our computers and spread out.
I used the deck outside the bedroom a number of times for a late afternoon nap - before going out for dinner.
I wanted to use the outdoor table in the front of the cottage more - but we were never there in the middle of the afternoon when it would have been warm enough (Feb.)
We would totally recommend this cottage!
Really enjoyed my stay! John's place was exactly what I needed. Plenty of room to sit in the sun, speakers outside, comfy bed, and a very peaceful location to get away from LA traffic. There's also a great park less than a block away with fitness equipment and basketball.
John was very easy to communicate with and made sure I was settled in. I'm hoping to stay here every time I'm working in LA. It's really a gem of a place.
I cannot fault my stay at John's place at all! The place is a dream and perfect for getting round LA! I stayed here for 4 weeks after relocating to LA from London and it was the perfect introduction to the start of my life is Los Angeles!
John was extremely helpful too- always on hand if I needed anything and checked in via email during my stay to make sure I was getting along ok!
All I can say is if you're thinking of staying here, do! It's perfect!
John's quaint little bungalow proved to be just the right fit for two LA newbies (and our pug) needing a central location while hunting for a permanent place. We stayed at John's for a little over two weeks, and he was the most gracious, responsive host. This was our first Airbnb experience, and I have to say it will be hard to beat. His house is just like the pictures show, and the location is close to the heartbeat of Hollywood and the freeway. From the moment we emailed John, he bent over backward to accomodate all of our needs, including allowing us to check in an entire day early, bring our dog, and then extend our trip last minute for another night. He left a bottle of wine for us in the fridge. The gas range stove made for excellent cooking in at night and breakfast in the morning some days, and the double headed shower was fun! It was unseasonably chilly for LA while we were there, but he had a space heater for the bedroom which worked out great, and had the heat turned up before we arrived. The outdoor patio was glorious in the morning, sitting under the gorgeous palm tree. The bed was comfy, the washer and dryer were convenient, and he had a fun selection of books and dvds that we enjoyed. Once it warmed up, we enjoyed days with the windows and doors open, and my wife drank her coffee out on the patio with the company of some hummingbirds every morning. The parking space is definitely convenient, after a late dinner or movie, you don't have to worry about driving around for a space or a long walk back. The high walls certainly create a serene atmosphere, and lots of privacy. He was so attentive and kind, and he and his fiancee met us at our car and helped us load our luggage in when we arrived. Since we were moving to LA, we had quite a bit. He made our transition to LA seemless. We would definitely stay again and recommend to friends. Great place. You won't regret it.
John place was just a dream.
We can't wait to come back
The house is as described, but only better. I loved the outdoor space. There is always a choice of sun or shade and it is so private, right in the middle of Hollywood! The kitchen is very well equipped.
The bed was comfortable and the area very quiet. A grocery store and everything you could want was within walking distance. The parking space was useful.
Nice experience. Will rent again later in the year for another month.
Excellent pad to stay in while we were in town. John was a great host, low key but available. He had a great listing of everything to see and do in the area.
John is a great host, very easy to deal with and the house is exactly as described.
My husband and I loved staying at John's bungalow. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We opted to spend our afternoons sitting outside enjoying the sunshine and beautiful king palm in the front patio. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away for a couple of days to LA.
John was a great host! He was accessible during the stay for any contingencies that came up and the check-in/check-out process was seamless. The place is exactly as advertised - made for a great trip to LA.
John was a very cool, laid back guest. He was in town for the film festival so he was very busy during his stay, but we could tell he was an all around cool guy. He was super clean and beyond courteous -- totally welcome back anytime! Highly recommend.
John and Pj were really nice guests!
They are interesting people and we had nice conversations. They arrived and left according to the reservation and left the place clear. We wish we had guests like them all the time :)
