I'm a maker of musical instruments; I'm learning to make wood sing.
Last year, I built my first instrument on a kitchen table because a man on a train convinced me to play the ukulele. At the time, it seemed perfectly reasonable to think I’d be able to hack such a small, curious thing together. Well, it ended as kindling for fire. So I had to build another one, and then another.
Learning my new craft makes me happy. I hope that the journey is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery. So far, it has taken me to the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where I built my first guitar; to colonial towns in Mexico, where the advent of water has become legend; to the lands of Canada, where rain and snow prevail.
My travels are possible thanks to AirBnB and the generous people who have welcomed me in their homes and workshops.
