Busy guy, life long Bostonian, I know the city and the area well! I enjoy my bicycle, swimming, sailing and powerboating.
Winter sports include snowboarding.
I own this big house with an extra bedroom for you to stay!
The kitchen was filthy, the bathroom was disgusting, and the location is quite remote (you need to get a bus for 10 min to reach the subway station.) I would thus say that the "Harvard/MIT" title is quite misleading. But price is good and you have your own room. The room did not have a lock which I found a bit strange. Finally, DJ picked me up from the subway station so this was nice. For this price not bad, if you only use the house for sleeping.
Super-nice host, friendly and upbeat D.J. will be really helpful to anyone staying in the Boston-Cambridge area at his place. House is in a safe, clean, pleasant neighborhood, very conveniently located a couple of blocks away from the bus lines that will take you to two different T-Stops easily. Room was HUGE, had a TV and internet hook-up, and the bed was very comfortable. Fresh, clean linens were wonderful. Plenty of closet space. Outdoor light is set on a motion-detector, so you don't have to worry about fumbling with your key in the dark. I'd recommend this place to anyone, it was a terrific and economical stay!
Daniel is a great host! He was helpful, flexible and courteous. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable.
The room we had at DJ's house was fine. It was a spare room upstairs that was roomy enough. The bed was okay. I think the sheets were clean, however I'm pretty sure the comforter and pillow shams haven't been washed in a while. The room got quite cool at night, however we discovered upon leaving that there were extra blankets in the closet. It was pretty clean - thought the vacuum hadn't made it to the edges of the room in a while.
There was only one shared bathroom which was downstairs (a very noisy set of stairs.) The bathroom was absolutely gross the first night we were there. there was mold and mildew all over the shower and bath, the sink and bathmat were filthy and theough the toilet looked clean it smelled strongly of urine. We called DJ the next morning and told him the issue and he adressed it that day while we were out. There wasn't any handsoap on the bathroom sink until we bought it.
I don't know if we were supposed to have kitchen privleges - but it looked impossible to use the kitchen if we'd (website hidden) was in the process of painting rooms and though the fresh paint smell was manageable one doorway to the kitchen was compleatly blocked by paint and supplies and the other was screened off.
We also didn't know until we arrived that he had two other roomates and another room to rent out (which was occupied our last three days). Seven people and one bathroom made for some long waits (especially being pregnant).
We had also hoped to be close to a T starion so we could grab the subway quickly and easliy and get to where we wanted to go. At DJ's we were much farther from a T station then we wanted to be. His location is easliy a 20 minute walk to Porter Station and even farther to Davis Station. A couple buses do pick up a few blocks from his house.
it was a quick stop at john's place. i slept like a baby in one of john's rooms after a day of rain and long walks. john was so entertaining and knows everything about Boston. Thanks for the advice once again, John.
Highly recommandable place to stay in Boston! The house is clean and the neighborhood is just great (close to MIT and Harvard!). I really liked staying there - and additionally, Daniel is a great guy and fun to talk to!
Great experience. Comfortable and convenient place to stay.
Great host! The accommodations were very nice. Public transportation was very accessible. I really enjoyed my stay at Daniel's place.
