sono svedese ma abito a Lugano da 8 anni.
My husband and I stayed in Kristina's place for 4 days last month and really enjoyed the experience. The little suite was wonderfully decorated and very clean. The location was good as well even though it was a little ways from the center of town. The bus stop was close and we still walked by tackling the hills. The breakfast she served were also wonderful. Would highly recommend this accomodation.
We cannot say enough wonderful things about the special few days we spent at the Guesthouse Castanola. Kristina and her family were wonderful hosts. The guesthouse was impeccably designed, maintained and equipped. We will certainly recommend to all.
The Guesthouse Castagnola looks even better in-person than in the Airbnb photos. Kristina's design sense is exquisite – an elegant mix of rustic (e.g. textured walls and doors) and ultra modern (e.g. glass and stone standing shower, brand new designer sink and toilet, mini flat-screen TV). Not pictured is a desk, large window, closet (with iron and small ironing board), and a kitchen area with a small fridge, sink, minibar, utensils, plates, and bowls. Newly-pressed white bathrobes and slippers were waiting for us when we checked-in, and there were chocolate hearts left on our pillows every night.
The location is perfect. The #2 bus takes you right to Castagnola (just a block and some stairs from the Guest House). The lake is just a few steps away; take a right and you're off on a scenic walk to downtown Lugano.
Kristina and her beautiful family were wonderful hosts: charming, warm, and incredibly kind and helpful. Kristina even gave me a delicious fruit tart for my birthday and helped us out with our laundry! Her recommendations were always 100% spot-on; don't miss out on the lovely olive path stroll along Lake Lugano to the small village of Gandria. Dinner there at the Locanda Gandriese on a terrace overlooking the water and mountains at sunset was unforgettable.
From beginning to end our time in Guesthouse Castagnola, hosted by Kristina and her family, was incredible. She was great to communicate with and answered any/all questions we had ahead of time. The Guesthouse is modern but has so much character. We had our 1yr old son there with us and we were extremely comfortable. We arrived on our son's birthday and she brought us a dessert with a candle and Canadian flag! It was SO sweet. The Guesthouse was spotless and provided more than we expected and needed. The breakfast was incredible as well! She made us feel like we were staying in a five star hotel. She helped with suggestions about where to visit while there and we were so glad we took her recommendations to go to Gandria and up to Mont Bre. We would absolutely stay there again and recommend it to everyone. It was an incredible experience and we are so grateful to have met Kristina and her family!
Our stay in the Guesthouse Castagnola end of July was prefect!
The environment is very romantic/rustic, and our room was exactly what we needed.
It was very welcoming, Kristina really takes care of every detail. Our son could even play with the toys of her little boy, so he was never bored :)
We were only there for 2 nights but we really enjoyed it - and the breakfast she organizes at the inner courtyard has everything you need to start the day in a good mood :)
We will return for sure at Kristina's Guesthouse!
This guesthouse is a dream! So romantic yet stylish, quiet yet central - it's the perfect hideaway for many occasions. A meat and cheese platter were waiting for us and on Sunday morning fresh Croissants were delivered to the door. What more can you wish for?! Can't wait to go back!
The apartment ist realy great and Kristina is a very caring host. The area of Castagnola is lovely. We liked it more than the city centre of Lugano but this is also very close to the apartment. You can easily walk to the old town of Lugano 20-25 minutes. Everything was clean and well designed. Highly recommended.
The Guesthouse Castagnola is an immaculate renovation in the heart of this old district of Lugarno. The room is beautifully presented and comfortable. Although there was no direct view of the lake from our room, you are in the middle of an old village, so expect early morning church bells. In fact you have to walk cobblestones and steps to reach it. But as always, travel is a state of mind, and Kristina put our minds at ease. The suggested walk through the forest and dinner at the stone village of Gandria overlooking the lake was sublime. To our amazement, Kristna and her boyfriend were waiting with a candlelit table, desert wine, cheese and stimulating conversation on our return. Kristina was a caring host and an intelligent and engaging personality.. Staying at Guesthouse Castagnola was as much about person as it was about the location and facilities. Each gets five (website hidden) If travelling by car from Italy, be aware that you must pay for a freeway pass at the border, and ring Kristina to advise on carparking.
