Dan's apartment is a great little space near tons of interesting cafes and restaurants - public transit, too! We had a blast in the neighborhood.
The bed is super comfy and there is a multitude of interesting and beautiful art on the walls.
Some other commenters noted some issues with the bathroom, but we found it totally clean. The place is not brand new (in fact, it's very cool 1930's era!), and there is a tiny bit of rust here and there, but nothing was dirty or moldy or anything like that.
The building is great and the parking is easy and the neighbors were friendly.
Although we didn't get to meet Dan in person, his friend met us at the train station for check in and drove us over to the apartment - totally beyond the call of duty and much appreciated!
It was a great stay. Thanks Dan!
Communication was very good and easy with Dan via email. he was very responsive and helpful to accommodate us.
The bathroom needs a bit of updating as there is mold etc round the bath, however everything else was great and we had use of the whole house with various books and films.
Everything worked out perfectly fine and I had a fine experience. But few heads-up: this is an occupied apartment that is available for guests when the tenant isn't there. That means it's completely filled with their own possessions. This may have been clear from the ad but I didn't really "get" it until I showed up and saw that I was kind of staying on top of their clutter. This isn't necessarily bad, but it's just something to be aware of.
The unit itself is an older apartment, I would describe the bathroom as "grungy."
This was a fairly downscale neighborhood and I felt okay walking around in the day but decided I would not be walking back to the unit from the metro station at night, carrying my laptop and made other arrangements.
Dan was always very friendly and super responsive when I made the first inquiry. When I was trying to coordinate getting the keys (from someone else, whose info I didn't have, as Dan was out of state), it was probably a week before I heard back, which did cause a bit of concern as my date of arrival got closer and closer.
Finally, there was some confusion around the parking space, which required the gate clicker to get in AND out of the building's parking lot in back. The clicker was in someone else's car and the people that let me in had to contact Dan and arrange for the person to bring it back and leave it in the unit when I wasn't there. Again, it worked out fine because I was fairly flexible but it could have been more of a problem in another situation.
Dan was a great host. Although we weren't able to meet face-to-face, he was as courteous as possible. Communication was quick and easy during our entire stay, and the apartment was amazing.
Dan was an excellent host. Even though we didn't get to meet him, he was quick to respond to my emails/texts and arranged a friend for check-in and check-out at the times of our request.
The apartment is just as pictured with all the amenities needed and has a very spacious, charming, and sunny atmosphere. It made our stay in LA very comfortable to feel "at home" instead of in a hotel.
I highly recommend Dan's apartment for those who want an at home feel in a residential neighbourhood.
Dan's place was beautiful! Perfectly located near Sunset Junction. With the fans on we hardly noticed the LA heat. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.
Dan was very accommodating and responsive. I needed a quick place to stay the night and he speedily made arrangements. Although I was not able to meet him, the place was well kept had good character and in a good location. I would recommend him to any of my friends. Thanks Dan, you made my weekend all the more special!
I stayed at Dan's apartment for five weeks. I met with Dan for several hours prior to his departure and also had the pleasure of seeing him again when I dropped off the keys upon my departure.
Dan is such a beautiful human being! His spirit is kind, caring, generous, fun, and happy. His place is a reflection of him. Such positive and creative energy!
His apartment had everything one could need -- fully stocked kitchen, linen cabinet, extensive selection of internet TV offerings, fast wireless internet, comfortable queen sized bed, comfortable living room sofa, etc. And, it was very bright, sunny, clean, and quiet. It's on the top floor (the building is only two stories) so I kept the windows open the entire time. There is one assigned parking space, off-street, behind the apartment building. There is a spacious laundry room in the back of the building next to the parking area with one washer (large capacity) and one dryer -- $1 wash, $0.75 dry. I never had to wait to use the washer/dryer.
The other tenants in the building are lovely people. It was a wonderful place to live.
I can't thank Dan enough for opening his home to me in such a wholehearted generous manner. It elevated my L.A. trip from "comfortably productive" to "magically transforming."
Dan is an awesome guest that I would be happy to have back anytime!
Dan rented the place for his dad while I was away, so unfortunately we did not get a chance to meet. But Dan was a smart, no maintenance guest who was respectful and easily maneuvered the various surroundings! This is a great part of town - it's always fun to rent to locals!
I've known Dan for over 11 years. We first met working on a 3 month project in Minneapolis. He struck me then as a very responsible young man and has grown into one of the most respectful, caring, kind, thoughtful and family oriented individuals that I have the honor of knowing.
I wholeheartedly endorse him as an airbnb host.
I am also a user of airbnb, finding an apartment in Paris this past May for 6 nights. Had a wonderful time and our host was incredibly helpful and kind.
