Aileen and Paul were very kind, accommodating and thoughtful hosts. They made sure I had everything that I needed, from wood for the fire to a lovely bottle of wine! The cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked with a nicely equipped little kitchen. The location was ideal, just 5 minutes' walk from the village of Union Hall and a few steps from the fishing harbor where you can watch the boats come in with the daily catch! I would definitely recommend this cottage for anyone staying near Union Hall.
We just spent 6 lovely relaxing days at Aileen's cottage in the beautiful village of Union Hall. Our host made us feel very welcome and the cottage itself is quaint, warm and has everything you need for a relaxing get away. Union Hall has many lovely pubs that double as eateries. our favourite being The Boatsman's Inn where there was live entertainment over the New Year holidays and the locals were very welcoming. The scenery in this area of Cork is breathtaking and there are some great drives and walks to be had regardless of the weather. After a days sight seeing there was nothing nicer than sitting by a stove fire with a glass of local whiskey reading a good book and listening to the sea. We will definitely be back to make more happy memories!
We enjoyed every minute of our six day stay at Sancta Maria.
Aileen sent us a helpful information pack before we arrived with details of the cottage and surrounding area.
It was a pleasure and surprise to be greeted by fresh provisions and even a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge!
Aileen also presented us with a fascinating book full of information about Union Hall and the beautiful paintings of views from the cottage that had been especially commissioned.
We were able to see some of the artists’ work at the Coffee Shop in the village - a place that we highly recommend for fresh baking.
Despite a couple of wet days we explored the local walks and managed to dry our clothes afterwards.
The church at Castletownshend was definitely worth a visit
On our first evening we had a delicious fish pie at Dinty’s and our subsequent visits were to Casey’s Bar where we were made to feel at home.
Everyone was so friendly and welcoming that it was a wrench to leave the place and we will be looking for opportunities to return.
Aileen has a wonderful cozy cottage in a quiet peaceful part of Unionhall. It has everything in it that you might need and is just a short walk to supermarket, pubs and a superb fishmonger. Aileen made it very easy to find and get settled in - including milk in the fridge for a cup of tea after a long journey there!
Fire in the chimney, chocolate on the pillow, even at home I don't have such!
Union Hall is a breath taking place - and the cottage is a perfect place to stay. Aileen is a most welcoming host, and the house has a book of amazing things to see and places to go. The terrace is a lovely spot for breakfast and the pier is less than 10 steps from the house. We were there four nights for a wedding, and we would definitely like to come back to this place.
Accueil très chaleureux deux personnes très attachantes, maison simple dans laquelle on se sent tout de suite bien, décors sublimes... Super séjour!
Great hospitality, we received a great welcome from Aileen and Paul, and our retriever was more than welcome too! The cottage is perfect for a small family or couple, right beside Keelbeg pier, gorgeous setting, couple minutes walk down to Union Hall, perfect distance between beaches along the West Cork coast and the islands off Baltimore for instance, would have no problem staying here again. Highly recommended!
Such a wonderful host, considerate and caring for my auld mum who is recovering from illness. The cottage is a perfect retreat from the word with pubs and restaurants very close-by. We've travelled a lot between us and this is by far the best equipped of any rental we've stayed at before. Simple things like having a variety of sharp knives to cut bread meat cheese and not sure one size fits all. Silly things really but help to make for a relaxing home away from home experience. If you are looking for a chilled out complete rest.. 100% recommendation from us.
