We loved the place of Rahul And his family!! He is a great cook. The food comes from his own organic garden and taste....YUMMIE. We had Nice conversations about India and all the projects he is doing with his English wife Kristy. Rahuls's place is THE place To exerience the country live!!
Simply put, Rahul, Kirsty, their children and friends and the staff that run this place embody the spirit of everything described by the words 'good people'.
And it's their personae - welcoming and unpretentious - that rubs off on the place they give out to guests.
Do not go to this place for being pampered silly. Do not go to this place if you are used to ordering people around.
Go there if you want a vacation for your mind as much for your body. And yes, also for the soups Rahul makes and the bread he bakes!
We had thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Rahul and his family. He is an excellent connoisseur of food and we would come back again for his signature dish of "baked fish". The salads are garden fresh, the breads are home made and every food item is delicious. The unique experience of cycling through the tribal villages is something we would cherish our lifetime. We could spend a little time over the school for tribal children and got impressed by the selfless devotion of some good human beings.
Another wonderful stay at Uttor Phalguni! Rahul arranged hired bicycles for us to ride around on, which was a great bonus. November's weather made it a perfect time to visit Shantiniketan.
Our stay at Rahul's family guesthouse was just what we needed. The house and area were peaceful and clean, the food was delicious and the family a joy to spend time with. They gave us some great ideas of things to do in the area. If you do not require to stay in the immediate town of Shantiniketan and want to spend some time in the village, I would encourage you to look into this option before any others. If you do stay here and travel by train, plan to arrive at the Prantik Station.
Rahul Da and his family are an excellent host, although they were busy due to the annual function of his school for the locals ( which itself is an extra-ordinary achievement and really appreciated), they took personal attention to ensure that we have a pleasant stay. The food was excellent and it is evident that he have a passion for cooking as well.
The guesthouse itself is one of the most calm and peaceful place to stay IMHO. Absolutely zero sound & pollution even in the day.
All in all, a very nice and refreshing day spent.
Would love to make a repeat visit, and spend some quality time with Rahul Da.
This was an opportunity for my sons, brought up in USA to see rural Bengal. Mr. Bose provided the perfect opportunity for that experience. The accommodation was simple and clean. Mr. Bose cooked a nice meal along with wine which was a treat after the long ride from Kolkata. We had little time time to visit but I admire Mr. Bose and his family for taking up the task of helping the marginalized people of India, far away from the glitter of urban India.
Me and my wife stayed at Uttor Falguni guest house for 2 days around Christmas. I wish it had been much longer. Its a place for a perfect getaway for peace and tranquility. Located a few kms away from Bolpur/Shantiniketan, the house is wrapped with natural surroundings. Rahul is an extremely good host - flexible, accommodating and very friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms were very clean, cosy and functional while the beds extremely comfortable to sleep on with warm blankets provided for. Rahul served us food every time that was fresh, delicious and healthy. Although we did not get a chance to know his family well, yet developed deep respect for him and his family for the selfless work they have been doing for decades empowering, elevating and educating the lives of the underprivileged tribal population in the surrounding areas.... I recommend everyone to visit his place... I am surely going to be back sometime again.....
Rahul's home stay fits so perfectly in the rural ambience of adivasi/santal tribal village of typical rar Bengal . While it provides just the right amount of comfort and amenities needed for our modern life, the cottage with its design and decor is a natural fit in the midst of rustic khoai, water creek with a narrow bamboo bridge and sonajhuri plantation bordering the open paddy field in the back yard. We all felt rejuvinated and fresh after our four days of stay there. Rahul, his family and Mangal all are superb host, and were reachable anytime by cell phone. We were treated like a family. Would love to go back some day. Highly recommend this place.
Rahul is a close friend for more than 17 years. He is a great host and a wonderful cook. We try to make it to his family Christmas lunches every year when we are in India! The lunches are events to look forward to! Rahul and his family of partner and 3kids have been our guests in Delhi and they are always great to have. In short a very interesting person, who is widely traveled, has been sometime in the hospitality industry and the perfect guest and host.
I have known Rahul for almost a lifetime...he is a wonderful person and engages with his surroundings with zeal and deep understanding. His work with the children in Birbhum and the dedication with which, both Rahul and Kirsty works towards imparting basic education is indeed praise worthy. I have always known him as a very affable and hospitable person, who will go that extra mile to make your stay with them worth more than the money you spend.
