desert-loving artist wanderer
Perfect place for a dessert expierence :-). Thank you.
Everything about our short stay at Chickasaw was perfect and matched the listing description and then some. Diane was very helpful and prompt with replies. We didn't need a whole lot but the few questions we did have she got back to us right away. The house is adorable, well appointed and decorated with that great mid-century desert/western style. Its all even better in person than in the photos. The bed is VERY comfortable. All the linens and bedding are of high quality, style, and comfort. Like being at home, but cleaner! The kitchen is quite large and has everything you need. The whole house is VERY clean, tidy, and cheerful. Its very close to town and to the park. The previous tenants seem to all be quite generous and thoughtful too - which is a testament to the house and hostess. The guest before us left a park pass (not that one shouldn't pay for the park, it is worth paying always), and the guest book is full of glowing, appreciative stories of past stays, drawings, and musings. Very cool house for a very cool stay in the desert. We look forward to seeing Diane's other properties in the future.
Diane was warm and happy to answer any of my questions. Chickasaw was the perfect getaway from Los Angeles. My boyfriend and I came to work on our creative projects. (He is a musician and I am a writer.) Chickasaw Homestead was peaceful, private, and a perfect place to write. The sunsets were lovely. We sat by the fire pit at night and gazed at the stars. You can take a nice desert walk if you need to clear your head, or you can sit on the living room couch and look straight into the mountains. The bedroom was the perfect temperature, and the bed itself was incredibly comfortable! The kitchen is clean, orderly and has everything you need. Diane even leaves coffee and firewood! I would stay here again!
Huge thumbs up for the onsite hiking with a mini jumbo rock piling in the back yard. The the fire ring experience, the BBQ, awesome fully equipped kitchen, the high volume CD player (reaching outside clearly) and the seclusion had us wanting to spend so much of our time outdoors in front to enjoy the view (which may have been the original purpose of this architectural phenomenon in its time during the Homestead Act). I really wasn't familiar with that aspect and the cinder block building inspiration in those times and we couldn't help to feel the connection with history while using our imaginations on the life style and living conditions of the Homesteaders once here. It was no surprise to discover that Diane Best is an artist (so I heard from some of the Joshua locals in the area) when you see her sense for design and the photographs and paintings on the wall. I hear the photos were shot by her. Our highlight was mapping out the stars with our eight year old son and trying out his new telescope for the first time. The sky was clear. But then it rained while we were sleeping and we woke up to a clear view of the mountains covered in snow. We barbecued sausages for breakfast. It was awesome! Don't forget fire wood for the fire ring. The view is untouchable next to the beauty of fire!
My girlfriend and I drove out to Joshua Tree for a couple days of climbing, and the Chickasaw Homestead couldn't have been a more ideal headquarters. Situated on acres of gorgeous desert and a 20-minute drive from the heart of JT national park, we were close enough to come home for lunch. We can't WAIT to come back again.
This is the perfect getaway! There's nothing like waking up in Diane's beautiful ranch and enjoying a cup of coffee on her porch, and reading on the hammock--in the middle of the beautiful and vast desert.
What an incredible home and experience!
Joshua Tree is awe-inspiring and The Chickasaw Homestead was the perfect place to return to after days of exploring. The location provided us with the feeling of seclusion we were looking for in the desert, yet was two minutes from the town of Joshua Tree and the entrance to the park. The property was immaculate - comfortable bed, coffee maker + coffee, music, exterior fire pit, light and modern kitchen/bathroom. Communication with Diane was easy and prompt.
Thanks for the wonderful experience.
We had a great weekend staying at the Mustang-- the surroundings are beautiful and the cabin is charming. I found the bed to be firm but very comfortable and everything was clean and well maintained.
I loved hanging out in the hammock and sitting outside enjoying the big desert moon.
Wonderful cabin close to Joshua Tree but with heaps of privacy and quiet. We will most certainly be back!
Diane is The Super-Star! Every place of hers is amazing! There is only the deepest for what she has done in Joshua Tree!
Rattler Ranch provides one of those rare travel experiences: unparalleled location (right near the rocks in Joshua Tree National Park), eclectic and spotless western themed cabins, and a warm, welcoming host in artist Diane Best. I'm not only a friend of Rattler Ranch but I'm a fellow airbnb vacation home owner so I know what it takes to run a successful vacation business that travelers want to come back to again and again.
