Difficult one. Elaine and Marien are seriously lovely. Really sweet, helpful, prompt getting back to me. They bought lots of food for me and even left banana bread for me as a gift.
I have to be honest though and say the flat was a bad experience. The heating broke after two days and it was bitterly cold. Because I was on a course all day, we weren't able to (website hidden) and sort it out. Waking up on Sunday, pregnant, with a cold, in a freezing flat was a real low point.
The flat itself is full if character, but should be described as a bedsit. It's one room with a shower cubical in it, so I found the picture misleading. Also the toilet broke and wouldn't flush.
I feel bad because as hosts they really tried to make my stay as great as it could be. It's a really excellent location and in the summer I think it would be awesome.
The apartment is beautiful - light, airy and spacious - and perfectly located (away fron the tourist areas) to explore the Jordaan and the rest of Amsterdam. Marien and Eline left some supplies in the fridge (eggs, cheese, bread etc.) which was perfect for breakfast. I throuroughly recommend staying here - very relaxing ineed.
Marien and Eline were really kind, polite and fast at answering my messages and explaining us how to get to the apartment. They were also really understading at the moment of our arrival and departure, We got to the appartment a friday at dinner time and left when they were busy at work, nonetheless they understood completely and came out with good solutions. The apartment is small, but cozy (don't get the stairs scare you), and enough for two people, especially taking into account the location. Jordaan is a really wonderful, fascinating and beautiful neighbourhood. We walked practically everywhere from the apartment and there are great places to eat, drink and to visit around the house. In additiion Marien and Eline were so generous to leave us fruit, cookies and other great stuff in the fridge, and also offered us their tea and spices, perfect for a nice breakfast or dinner at home! I didn't find Marnizstraat so big or busy, we didn't even notice the street noise and found the bed extremely comfortable!
We had a wonderful time at this place!
Eline (Marien's gilfriend) welcomed us warmly to the appartment. Not only had she prepared everything real nicely and put out towels etc, but she also had bought food for us! It was very clean and the kitchen has everything you need (we could even use Eline's herbs and teas...thanks again for that!)
The room is small, cosy and has a lot of lovely little details and accessories lying and standing aroud.
The location of the appartment is great, the Jordaan district is beautiful and we could walk everywhere...
True, Marnixstraat outside is loud, but the the huge bed was so comfy that we didn't even care...
The house is a little old and those who don't want (or can't) climb these tipical and very steep dutch stairs, shouldn't come, but to us it really felt like home and we definitely want to come back next year! :)

Displeasing experience, the stair case was very dirty, dusty and littered with news papers. Marien told me this is due to the owner of the building who doesn't care about cleaning. The key to the one room flat is fussy and doesn't allow an immediate entrance. The flat itself is clean and the bed is excellent. Unfortunately the traffic noise at night led me to plug my ears with wet toilet paper which was not sufficient to make me sleep. Marnixstraat is a very large and busy street with trams and speeding up cars, the noise of which goes through the old single glass sliding windows . The morning after my first and sleepless night I found an other place and Marien wrote she was ok to refund me four of the five days I had booked. While writing I'm still waiting for the refund. She insisted to charge 60 Euros for the cleaning of the flat, which I refused.
Marien was good at communicating and left the apartment in a neat and clean condition. Welcome back any time.
