I am an author/designer/instructor, my first book, Scratch For Kids For Dummies (due in bookstores 5/4/15), teaches kids 8-12 how to develop their own digital artwork, animation and video games. It was a blast to write, and I will be spending the next several months doing a wayward book promotional tour across the United States and then headed to Europe in August. This is particularly exciting as I've been mostly holed up in Boston for the past year working on the book and have not left the country in several years.
I am a bit of a film fanatic (recent favorites include Boyhood, Her and Gravity). My reading tends to be non-fiction these days; just finished incredible book about Confucius (The Secular as Sacred) and reread Siddhartha (has been at least 20 years since my last Hesse, interesting to revisit in my 40s). My fiction taste is on the literary/speculative fiction spectrum (I love Octavia Butler, Mary Doria Russell and early Orson Scott Card--though I have a hard time reconciling his religious/political persona with progressive themes of same books).
I am a life-long learner (just began Spanish lessons) and have a passion for teaching. As a teacher, my mission is to demystify the digital arts toward enabling more people to be media producers rather than just consumers.
