If you asked my closest friends about me in my presence, the most immediate reaction would be my reddening and leaving the room; I do not like talking about myself. Notwithstanding my discomfort, here are a few things that I like to think my best friends would say about me.

Tom is a really nice, trustworthy guy. His personality is of the type that he just wants everyone to be happy and together.

He's smart: he did degrees in engineering and business, although much of his personal reading is in philosophy and science-fiction.

He's driven to make the world a better place: he co-founded an environmental group at his university and then upon graduation helped found an environmental non-profit research group called the Network for Business Sustainability ((website hidden)), where he worked for the next six years.

Finally, Tom is an incessant learner who is fascinated by all the magnificent diversity around the world. In fact, he and his partner, Danielle, quit their jobs and are travelling the world in 2012!

5 THINGS I COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT: My lovely partner, Danielle. All my family and friends. My ears, to listen to music. My feet, to walk and hike. Clean air--can anyone live without it?

MUSIC: I object to this unfair question. My interests are all over the map--from indie rock, to classical, to late 90s drum and bass, to reggae, to jazz. Sorry to be elusive but it's true!

BOOKS: The last I finished was The Road by Cormack McCarthy, I'm nearly done Bertrand Russell's epic History of Western Philosophy, and next I think I'll re-read Isaac Asimov's first Foundation book, which I just recommended to a friend.

MOVIES: It really depend on my mood. Documentaries and dramas are great when my brain has energy. If not, action and adventure flicks are my choice.

WHAT TO EXPECT: First, you can expect not just me but also my lovely partner, Danielle, who is quiet until you get to know her a bit. Second, you can expect us to be respectful and quiet at certain times, and friendly and sharing at other times (you pick the times!). Third, you can expect always to receive many smiles and warm wishes from us at all times.

LIFE MOTTO: Hmm, how does this sound: positive impact through learning, community and happiness?

PHONE? Sorry, we're not travelling with a phone, but we have Skype and can call your phone from Google Talk.
