Originally from Long Island, New York, I am currently a music professor at Texas A&M University and live in Bryan-College Station. My interests include traveling, photography, cycling, collecting Asian art and antiques, and attending classical music concerts in Houston and Dallas. I am a composer and specialize in composing music for traditional Japanese instruments. I also play the shakuhachi, the representative end-blown Japanese bamboo flute. I graduated from Oberlin College, lived in Tokyo for 6+ years, and received my Ph.D. from the U. of Hawaii, Manoa. I enjoy going to Austin about once a month for an urban fix, enjoying the delicious food, live music, shopping, and cycling along the urban trails.
