My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights. When we arrived our first impressions were good. The loft is quirky but pleasant. It’s an unusual and unique space. It has a turtle.
All seemed fine with our stay – until in the middle of the second night.
We turned the overhead light on in the bedroom area for the first time and got a proper look at the sheets.
They were covered with blotchy red stains. These were sheets we’d already slept on for one and a half nights. They appeared to be bloodstains.
You’re thinking “gross”? Of course you are.
This place isn’t some backstreet flophouse. It’s a loft and the owners are charging $125 per night, plus cleaning fee.
I messaged Maya (who owns the loft with her partner Pieter) and explained what we found, and that it spoiled our stay. I also said I wasn’t going to post a bad review.
However, Maya messaged with an explanation: she claimed these red stains were caused by mistakenly washing the sheets with a purple blanket “that unfortunately made big purple reddish spots all over the sheets. I didn't have time to go buy new ones at that point and just decided to leave it. I'm sorry that you may have thought it was something else, and it ruined your stay.”
Previously I wasn’t going to leave a bad review. But: “I didn’t have time to go buy new ones at that point and just decided to leave it”?
So… you’re renting out your home to people you’ve never met before, and charging $125 per night (let’s not forget that cleaning fee). And you knowingly leave sheets on the bed covered in red stains? Really? What caused the stains really isn’t the point. When we discovered them, they sure as hell didn’t look like purple dye to us.
It’s central Atlanta; Target or equivalent is a short drive away. Those guys sell sheets. If you’re renting out your home, clean sheets are pretty basic. We also booked the morning of the previous day and arrived early evening – that’s enough time to realize you need to go shopping.
Leaving extensively stained sheets on a bed when you have guests staying is one of those things in life, like kicking a puppy, which is just plain wrong.
The loft was beautiful! It felt like a home-away-from-home. Maya and Pieter were very accommodating. They allowed my large group of six to take over their abode for labor day weekend while they were on a retreat. Sadly, we didn't get to meet, but they arranged for a friend to get us the keys and help out if we needed it. It was very close to the metro and we never felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood. I will definitely consider staying here anytime I'm going to Atlanta.
The pictures don't do this beautiful home justice. Maya and Pieter met me the day I was checking in, and were just as beautiful as their home. they showed me around and made me feel very comfortable. When I come to town, I come doing my work as a Reiki Healer and Masseur, and their space was amazing! The set up and energy of their space was like walking into a little temple. Although having T-Mobile, cell reception was poor, and didn't have the best of wifi connection, I couldn't have asked for a better place. There are also some great little shops for eating and a great coffee house(internet close by). I would definitely recommend their place to anyone who is looking for a great get away place. I will definitely contact them the next time I am coming to Atlanta... their Turtle Palo is pretty cool too!
Maya was an extremely friendly and flexible host. The loft was clean, spacious and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay there and would definitely stay again if needed. I would definitely recommend this listing.
We did not get to meet Maya but understandably that they are a happy couple and enjoying their honeymoon :)
Maya & Pieter were great guests. We would gladly host them again.
