Less than five minutes to a subway station, Central Park, and a Dunkin Doughnuts. All the necessities are provided. Prompt responses. Thanks for everything John!
It was a wonderful experience, thanks to the welcome extended to me and my friends.
In good location, close to Centarl Park and very close to the metro (about 5 min walk), with which you can reach downtown in 10 minutes.
I would gladly.

grest experience. Very clean and cozy room
John was a very good host. He provided very clear instructions for getting into the apartment and answered all the questions I had in a very prompt way. The apartment is located in a great neighborhood, right in the middle of East Midtown. The apartment itself was nice; very clean and pretty spacious. There was only a bed and a fold-out couch, however, which was a little different than the listing. In general, however, the whole listing was great and I am very happy with John's capabilities as a host.
My experience was very similar to Reyna's below. If I had known what I know now, I would likely not book this place again.
We were instructed to get in the main building door upon arrival by using a key that was "hidden" in a flower pot outside the door. The same key was used by several other airbnb guests staying in the building, which did not feel particularly safe, as anyone could have forgotten to put the key back, and we would have been completely SOL upon arrival, compounded by the fact that it was impossible to reach John on the phone.
After checking in and putting our things down, when we went to leave for the evening and lock the door, the deadbolt could not be engaged. We attempted to call John several times, with no luck, not even a voicemail option, which was distressing. We ended up having to take our valuable items with us as we didn't want to leave them unlocked in the apartment. The second day we were able to physically jigger with the lock, and got it to engage, but as a guest, that's not something I would want to have to do.
There was no lightbulb in the bathroom, which as you could expect, was inconvenient.
The note on the refrigerator asked that we be quiet and respect the downstairs neighbors, which was fine, but went on to say "if the neighbors ask, please tell them you're my friends, no need to mention airbnb", which felt kind of sketchy.
We were told that checkout was at 11am, but a cleaning lady rang the doorbell at 9:50am, which was inconvenient and rather awkward. She said she could come back at 10am, so we had to shower and pack up while she was in the apartment cleaning in and around our things.
With the negatives out of the way, the apartment was nice enough, good sized, there were plates and cups to use and the apple tv worked fine on the albeit tiny tv.
Overall, due to the security issues, and lack of communication, I would not book this apartment again. I'm looking for an airbnb host who is either going to meet me in person, or have someone in the city who is helping with the apartment. Zero contact and no ability to call was unsettling. The building just seemed like a check yourself in airbnb hotel, as there were seemingly airbnb guests staying in all the other apartments.
John was a great host. Had a little difficulty in getting in touch with him in the lead up to the rental, but once we made contact, John was very kindly and show how to enter and pick the keys up. We never meet him personally but he let us the chance to deliver the apartment late afternoon. We did not.
The location of the apartment is fantastic and easy walking distance to lots of restaurants / bars / attractions. The space is also very functional with the bedrooms downstairs and lounging space upstairs. We were a group of 9 persons from Europe.
Negative points for improving:
1-Cleaning. Apparently it was recent cleaned, but we should move a bed to find something that one of our kids drop bellow, and we found some months of no clean. Even we found a baseball bat bellow the bed!! . The same happened with the bad mat.
If I was John, I should change the cleaning service or company!.
2-Cold wind going through the windows directly to the head of the guests sleeping downstairs. We had to improve a wind stop using sheets and cushion. If I was John I should call a “window company” to repair this.
3-Electric system of the house. Uff!.... I believe in all New York is quite similar, but somehow it can be even dangerous to have all the set of cables running all the floors and ending in several junction box. This for sure would be not permitted in my country!. With a simple hand work It could be set up.! Again my advice is to use a “electric company” to set the system up.
John was a very helpful host. Very nice apartment for what we needed. It was listed correctly. We really enjoyed the neighborhood. It was a great location. Walking distance to most of the tourist spots or a short cab ride. Not far from the subway either. All around great place for us.
John was a fantastic guest. Left the place spotless and was a breeze to accommodate and communicate with
John was a great guest! Would love to host him again.
Awesome - clean and friendly. Great guy.
John and their friends were friendly, polite and easy to talk to, they stayed for two nights in the apartment!!
