The host is very nice and friendly. However there's not enough toilets and bathroom (2 out of 5 bathroom is out of order and only 1 out of the remaining 3 has a toilet ) also there is no water provided in the hostel. The flat is ok but not spacious, only suitable for those not carrying a big luggage (and its on third floor of the building ). Overall speaking the hostel is acceptable compared to the price. The security of the hostel needs improvement.
Great for low price London staying. Also in pub drinks and nearby food is cheap regarded london prices.
Stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. It was my first time staying in a hostel of any kind, so I don't have much to compare this to. However, the listing is very straight forward- there were no surprises and I was very happy with my stay.
Tarek (the manager, I believe), was extremely welcoming and helpful. He made sure I had everything I needed, showed me around when I first got in, and gave me his number in case I needed anything else. They run the hostel in a very straight forward manner ("if you break anything, we'll charge you", etc), which is exactly how I would I would run a hostel.
The rest of the staff was very friendly as well, and they were all easy to chat with. They even did a good job of letting me know about a private Danish party on the second floor (which was a great experience).
The area felt a little shady at night (compared to other areas of the city), but I'm a grownup and can handle my shit. It's right around the corner from the tube station, so you don't have to walk far.
Now, that being said, it is a hostel. Shared bedrooms and shared bathrooms are part of the deal. You get a locker with a key, a clean towel and sheets on the bed. You are getting what you pay for. Was it the cleanest place I've ever stayed? No, but I can roll with the punches. For the price I paid, I thought I got a good deal and I felt very safe.
To the staff: Thanks for the awesome stay guys, I had fun hanging out- (website hidden);DR: Straight forward ad/you get what you pay for/super welcoming staff/I would stay there again.
**Booking & Staff** Easy booking service, really friendly staff and helpful. **SAFETY** for 15£ a head per night, it is what it is.. a HOSTEL. That means, shared rooms and living conditions. Luckily we were a group of 6 with our own room, but others in the hostel were sharing with strangers. That isn't so bad since there are lockers where you can put you stuff in. You can fit a sports bag in this sideways to keep all your belongings in there. You would struggle to fit anything else bigger, such as a small "hand luggage suitcase". Rooms are not lockable, since it is a hostel. But the bedroom area is only accessible by those with rooms, so do not fear of safety. There is a seperate door for the bedrooms (above the pub) and you are given your own key. In the hallway, there is even a seperate keycode lock for extra security. Nothing to worry about here! You are as safe as gold. **ROOMS** We were with 6 guys, so please bare this in mind. We are not picky, not noble or in need of extra comfort.. all that concerned us was a BED!. Each room is fitted with 5 or 6 bunk beds and to put it bluntly, the rooms are in a bad condition to be perfectly honest, dirt under the bunk beds, a lot of dust. Parts of the rooms had mold growing in the corners (ceiling), or just looked really dirty (black patches) and the WINDOW in our room.. oh my oh my.. it was so disgusting we feared to open it in case it fell off. It was racked with grime and rust and we actually had to use a plastic bag to open the windows. Don't expect anything else other than a bed. Not even a desk, a draw.. nothing to hang or put your clothes. Whether this is normal for hostels I don't know.. just be prepared. ** Bathrooms** There are 2 shower rooms, and there is 1 toilet with a shower too. Again expect the bare essentials. A small mirror in each the size of your head and running water. Nothing or no where to put your toiletries or hang anything.. nothing. Other than that, they were kept in good condition and we were very pleased. ** LOCATION ** Location was great for us, 6 guys - although it may not appeal to anyone travelling alone or women, since the "hood" is probably not the best, That said, we found the location EXCELLENT! Right next to the pub is a TESCO metro where you can buy everything. Inside the same building is a variety of stores in a shopping mall, here you can buy pretty much anything. Just a 10-15 minute walk you can reach the BOROUGH MARKET, which is highly recommended! MUST DO. Just outside the pub are 2 bus stops to go in each direction, the bus's travel throughout the day and night (night bus) and just...
The host was pleasant and welcoming and the bed and room was clean. However, there were quite afew maintenance issues. Several showers weren't working and the light in the toilet was broken. It didn't create problems for me, but some people would struggle without a light in the toilet!
Funny Place. Funny People. Easy going! Thanks!
Our stay with Donal Ennis at The Charlie Chaplin Bar and Hostel was probably the worst we have ever had. First, this area seems to be the most dirty around central London as a whole. The streets are never cleaned, a strange market is located close to the hostel. One day, there was a large piece of shit one meter from the front door of our hostel. I'm not kidding, a large piece of shit. Nobody took it away; it seems to us that a car drove over it, but it was a slick on the pavement during the entire time of our stay. Second, everything in the hostel was very dirty: our bed linen, towels, floor, shower room and so on. Nobody was going to do any cleaning; the only bin we had on our floor was crowded for three days. Garbage lied everywhere: on the carpet, on the stairs, everywhere. But it was the absolutely indifferent attitude of the hosts which surprised us the most. For example, we had no hot water for two days. By the end of the first day, we met our hosts and found out that it depends on the shopping center, which is located in the same building as the hostel and transmits the water. But my point is that it took a day to find them. Our hosts did not bother to explain it to us by themselves, find us or even leave us a note ... we were simply ignored.
To sum up, I do not recommend anyone to stay here.
Staying in this hostel was good, but bathrooms may be more cleaner
