Response from Shilpa:
Thanks for your honest review. I hope to provide a clean, well-lighted, and spacious apartment for an affordable price in one of the most well-connected and flattest (some of those San Francisco hills can surprise you!) parts of the city.
The location can breed traffic in the alley: homeless, teenagers partying, graffiti artists, but often times nothing as well. I myself have been staying at the unit for the past 3 nights and haven't heard a peep at night. I'm sorry your stay coincided with the grittiest part of urban life.
The oven does work, but I neglected to say in my instructions what to do if the pilot light blows out (you have to re-light it underneath) which would be the only possibility of why the oven didn't function, I think. As for the drain, I do know there is a screen over the drain which is removable and needs to wiped of hair/dust so water can flow through, though I've never had a problem with 6 inches of water. Anyone with long hair renting the flat would probably need to clear the screen every day, though. (This is maintenance required in any private home, I imagine.) I should have included this in the instructions as well. I will check into it with a plumber though, just to be sure.
I had just purchased the futon brand new only weeks before, so I'm sad to hear it was very uncomfortable. I'm glad kitchen supplies and Netflix were of value, though!
Thank you again for the notes and for voicing your concerns honestly for the community. Best regards.
