Our stay in Chris&Herb's house was truly nice!
First of all, Chris and Herb are very attentive hosts. There is a detailed instructions about certain a things, (trash, lighting, heat etc) which we found very helpful. Little notes make it easy to find everything.
The house itself is arranged very well, it doesn't look big, yet it's very spacious. One area flows into another- from kitchen to dining area into cozy and homey living room.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all sorts of pots, dishes and utensils. We easily made a great Thanksgiving dinner, as if it was at home.
There is also a great collection of table games and books. Our 4-year-old had the best time.
Comfortable bedrooms, everything is clean and neat.
The place is done with love and care, and seems to be a great choice for a country vacation.
There are plenty of hiking, skiing, nature walking in the vicinity.
For the nearest trails just walk across the street to the Ashokan center, though there are more challenging hikes within 20min drive.

We had a wonderful stay at Chris&Herb's place. We confirm all the positive reviews others already wrote. Everything was in its right place, the house is fully equipped and functional, small labels attached to the switches with recommendations of how to use the different appliances and what light switches turn on or off which lights, something that saves lots of time in an unfamiliar surrounding. All in all, a delightful experience! Highly recommendable!
Besides, I want to note Herb’s kindness, who supplied us with addresses and tips to enhance our experience and make the best out of the lovely area, which is delightful, especially this time of the year -the fall- with all its beautiful foliage colors.
Herb and Chris thank you very much!
We just had a wonderful stay at Herb and Chris' beautiful home near the Ashokan Reservoir over the Labor Day weekend. Chris reached out to us ahead of time by phone to give us all the information we needed, including directions to the house and to the supermarket to stop at on the way from NYC. The home is beautiful. Very, very clean and stocked with absolutely everything you might need - the kitchen is just great for cooking for a family. So nice to have the staples (oil, sugar, spices, condiments) so we didn't have to bring everything with us.
And the garden...so beautiful and peaceful, full of hummingbirds and butterflies. We spent quite a bit of time sitting outside chatting and enjoying the lovely garden.
The house is about 20 minute drive from Woodstock and a little further to Phoenicia so quite centrally located for great hiking, shopping, dining.
All the beds were all very comfortable with lovely bedding and towels provided. The ceiling fans worked great when it warmed up later in the weekend.
Communication was great. I had a quick question about a stuck balcony door and I was able to get in touch with Herb/Chris right away and they walked me through the trick to opening it. I highly recommend this beautiful home and plan to return to it in the future.
We had a lovely stay! We were two couples and two babies around a year old and everyone had enough room to roam and privacy. The babies appreciated the carpeted floors, many butterflies, and ceiling fan. The adults appreciated how CLEAN the floors (and everything else, too) were; the garden with flowers, cardinals, and humming birds; the different spaces for hanging out; the amazingly close proximity to the Ashokan Center (we attended a music festival there); and the well-stocked kitchen (we are buying one of those pancake griddles!). We will be back! Thanks again!
We had a wonderful stay at Chis and Herb's place. Our vacation was almost completely ruined had we not found this wonderful little home in the Catskills/Hudson valley area. An active garden with plenty of birds to watch kept my children busy. We felt so comfortable there, almost like we've known our hosts forever. If we return to the woodstock area, we would definitely consider staying here again.
They provided us with all we needed and wanted. It was such a cosy house with such a beautiful garden. The perfect place to discover the many trails to hike and bike. We saw deers and beautiful birds. Easy to cook but nice restaurants in the neighbourhood as well. Great beds and bathrooms. We visited also Woodstock, a place to remember those days. Thanks Herb and Chris for your great hospitality !
We loved this charming house: large windows, artful decoration, a great collection of movies and music CDs, a fully stocked kitchen, etc. The list goes on and on. And exactly what previous reviewer said; it's well stocked with everything you can possibly need for a short stay.
In addition, the location is superb. We went to Woodstock, Ashokan reservoir and center, Slide mountain, and Mohonk Preserve during our stay. Herb and Chris left various materials on local attractions, which were really helpful.
We definitely recommend this place. We'd love to come back.
Great place, Great Host, Great experience EVER!!! We had some problem with car but Herb figured out through the phone. I really would like to meet him someday and give him big hug. Thanks Herb again. your place made me really home.
Herb and Chris are the best! The house was cozy and suited the group very well. Loved the great light and birds just outside the kitchen window. Herb was extremely helpful and have fantastic recommendations for things to do, sights to see...
We will definitely come back for future visits.
This was my first AirbNb experience and it could not have been more delightful. I stayed over New Year's eve and New Year's day and it was a cozy winter retreat and a perfect way to start the year. The ease of the experience began as soon as I made my reservation with Herb's quick, attentive and proactive communication, his flexibility, helpfulness and thoughtfulness in the weeks leading up to my stay. I had all the information necessary to plan my visit. And then the house itself is warm, charming, completely stocked with just about anything you could need for a short or extended stay. And the location, across the street from the Ashokan Center, is a wooded retreat perfect for getting away and reconnecting with nature without giving up any of the amenities of home. It's a wonderful haven in the woods and my sister, brother in law, and nephew had far more than enough space to spend time together or come and go as we wished.
In short, I loved it and can't wait to go back.
