I live in Columbia, MO. I love music (live and otherwise), books, film, cooking (especially baking), biking, and swimming.
Karen and her family were, for the most part, good guests. They were very tidy, and respectful of the property and the neighborhood. They left the apartment as they found it, and we were very grateful for that.
That being said, Karen was not the easiest guest to please, and her concerns would have been much easier to address had she been more communicative with us. For example, when she texted asking if the apartment had a coffee maker (it doesn't, nor have we advertised it as such), we very kindly offered her the use of our own French press. Our offer received no reply.
She also left feedback saying she couldn't turn off the porch light and it disturbed her sleep; however she failed to ask us at any point during her stay how to remedy this. We could have resolved this in seconds by telling her where the switch was.
Also it was a shame that she chose to question the value of our apartment in her review. We had already very graciously waived the cleaning fee when she claimed the apartment was out of her price range.
Finally, we were left a bit put out by Karen at check-in time. She had originally informed us that her family were aiming to arrive for 2pm. Instead we received a text on the day, just slightly past noon, asking if they could show up in 20 minutes. In fact, they arrived only 10 minutes later. A little more consideration of her hosts' time and schedules would have been much appreciated.
It was a pleasure to host this sweet, polite family. It was their first visit to Portland, and they wanted to make sure to experience it properly, and from what they'd heard that meant going places by bicycle - so apparently they did their research! The younger son and I connected over music - he was especially interested in the drum set, and we noticed a definite improvement by the end of their visit - I could see that going somewhere. Hope you guys had a safe journey back home!
