My friends and I had such a lovely time at Basil's place. As a host, Basil is welcoming and accommodating. Who could ask for more?! Your search ends here; book your stay with him.
Basil's getaway was excellent. What sets him apart is his personal attention to detail - he gave us a very thorough walkthrough of the space and took a short ride with us to point out popular restaurants, a great farmer's market, and scenic biking paths. He anticipated most of our needs and was very well-prepared - we found almost everything we wanted with no explanation needed.
For those with short attention spans: book it! It's a great place and Basil's personal touch made sure it was a pleasant, relaxing weekend.
It's a nicely apportioned unit as part of a condo complex, located up two flights of wooden stairs. The unit has a great deck / balcony with an electric grill, perfect for grilling fresh vegetables and seafood. Beach towels, tennis rackets, 3 bicycles, cookware, basic spices and condiments, and even a computer were all at our disposal. He was even nice enough to get us 2 cans of new tennis balls even though we brought our own, and there's a pool, 2 tennis courts, and a basketball court for use on premise.
Basil was a great host and once he gave us everything we needed, he headed out and left us to our own devices for the next two days and was extremely flexible about the check in and check out (we came in at 11am and left around 6pm the following day).
While we only stayed one night, it was a great visit and I highly recommend it. Despite the high cost, it's reasonable and competitive versus other options in the area and easily accommodates 4 full grown adults.
It's conveniently located near the waterfront and makes for a decent place to see the sunrise (there are better options, though) and is about 75 minutes to the Montauk Lighthouse (add 15 mins or so if traffic is heavy), the very eastern edge of Long Island, and about 90 minutes from the city with decent traffic (easily 2 hours or more if traffic is bad).
Whew, all right, that was a long review but it has everything anyone should need to know. Long story short, book it and you'll have a great time!
I've only have good experience with my hosts so far, but Basil was the best! His place is amazing - not to mention the breathtaking views. We enjoyed the stay so much, that we decided to change our plans and spend one more night. We went to the beach, played tennis, even watched movies in 3D :) Kitchen is fully equipped, bathrooms very clean and Basil is always only a phone call away, if you need help with anything. We really hope to go back and enjoy it even more!
Basil was an amazing host. Everything we needed was provided, and we loved his little notes explaining the lay of the land. It was so relaxing to eat breakfast on the patio and look out onto the bay, spend the day at the beach, then come back to his lovely house and watch 3D movies and stargaze. He was very thoughtful in providing things like beach towels and maps to local restaurants/beaches/grocery. My boyfriend has stayed with Basil before and sings his praises - my only regret is that I didn't get a chance to meet him myself!!
We had a truly lovely time staying at Basil's place! He was so kind to take us on a car ride when we arrived to point out all the key places we needed to know of such as the cool farm stand a few blocks away, the grocery store and some cute delis and restaurants. He was very helpful and responsive the entire time we stayed! There is a pool in the complex and that was great to relax and wind down at, at the end of the day. The only downside is that some of the tenants are older and were a bit rude to us. We were not being rowdy and just sipping on drinks out of plastic cups. Outside of that minor run-in though, we had a truly wonderful time! The view of the bay is also a wonderful scene to wake up to. Basil is a great host!
In a nut shell, his house was much more than I expected. Basil kindly welcomed all of us and introduced every details in the home which maximized fun and joy during our stay. We enjoyed all the cozy feeling from his house and also beautiful area around there by taking bicycles borrowed from him too. If someone plans to visit Hampton area, I highly recommend to choose his house.
Basil was more than a wonderful hosts. He provided us nice extras and was extremely flexible with our time and what we needed. Gave us an extra tour and had coffee made because one of us woke up screaming we needed it! Amazing view and balcony to grill/ cook whatever we needed. Fun & quiet pool to hang out in too. The grill did not work and he went out to buy a new one.
Wow. Just wow! For this one-night stay, Basil literally went beyond any expectations that one can have.
We were received like kings and left as friends. We were four guys who rode our back from Brooklyn and were pretty exhausted at our arrival. But Basil welcomed us with opened arms, made us feel home right after our first steps inside his beautiful place and got our energy back on. He offered us a ride to the grocery store, helped us out with directions and finally as a cherry on top he took us on a boat ride across the bay. Boom, there are our eight thumbs up!
Basil, we're truly thankful and hope we get to stargaze on your balcony one more time before the summer ends.
He was fantastic even down to helping me fix a unprotected laptop. He is always welcome back.
