You can't beat the price for this place. Communication with Jim and Karl were fine. I did not stay in the room pictured but in the basement. The bed was good. The room and bathroom needed some cleaning. Overall it was fine for the price.
Nice room and helpful host. Shared kitchen stacked with all appliances. Good experience.
I stayed at this house for two months while completing an internship in Lexington and had a great experience! Karl was a great host, very helpful and kind. The house was clean and well-kept, a great living environment. A car is necessary for getting around the area, conveniently located close to shopping, hiking, and the Alewife station for getting into Boston. Comfortable house, great location, excellent hosts, highly recommended!
James and his wife Gil were amazing hosts! They welcomed us with a fabulous BBQ and mais cerveja! They were able to facilitate taxi pick-up and drop off at the airport and the communication was quick and easy. We stayed up late sharing travel stories and eating delicious food. James even had breakfast ready for us the morning we left! I would highly recommend staying with James and his wife whenever you are in Campo Grande!
The room suits 1-2 people, has a bed (very comfortable) with 8 pillows of different sizes and colours + a warm blanket. You get 2 keys: from the room and the house. Inside: a window (openable) + net against mosquitos, dresser, 2 lamps, outlets, closet (many hangers) and a mirror + some nice decorations; an opening in the floor for heat to come. The heater dashboard is outside the room. Fine Internet. No chair - I brought one from the kitchen, but later was OK without it. There is a space for a luggage too. The house has a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, stove, other appliances and a living room with TV and board games, which can be used by everybody. There is no cat anymore. There is a yard behind the house. There are 3 young men living in the house permanently - each one in his room. Karl, James' son, runs the place. James is not there, but is accessible through e-mails and responds quickly. He is an intelligent gentleman, with good manners, eager and able to help, speaks many languages and visited many countries. There is only one toilet, but when I wanted to use it - it was available. Usually there is always someone in the house. The place is clean and there are plenty of shampoo, shower gels and soaps + mouthwash, flosses and tooth paste. I had my own towels, but I am sure that Karl would give me some otherwise. The area is quiet, safe and suitable for living: within walking distance there are a steak house with good food and even better prices, diners "Friendly's", "Boston Market", "Panera Bread", pharmacy, big electronics store, cheap clothing chain, 4 banks including "Bank of America", pizzeria, huge grocery store, "Burger King", "McDonalds", radio store, barber shop and more; parks and pond. Good for jogging. There is a bus running through Waltham to Watertown and Cambridge subway station connecting to Boston (1.5 hours of commute, $2 one way (bus + subway)). Car: it is about 20 km to Boston and slightly more to the airport, the roads are good and almost no traffic; nearby are Belmont and Lexington, which are nice towns with different characters. Waltham has a lot of restaurants and definitely worth of culinary exploring: Japanese, Indian, Mexican, Korean, American, Spanish, Thai and Latin American cuisines are presented numerously. I saw Karl, mostly, during check in and before check out. He will leave you alone if you do not need him, but will help - if you do. He picked me up in the airport after midnight and did not ask for money, but I paid him anyway. The place better suits young, but other will be able to benefit too. Their prices are lowest in Boston area and the location allows you to get a real New England experience, which may be more interesting than Boston one. But you still can spend the whole day in Boston while saving money on the lodging.
I relocated to Boston for a new job and stayed here for a month while searching for a permanent place. The room is well furnished and it is in a safe location close to public transport. The host living here is respectful, courteous and friendly. Highly recommended!
great place to stay.
very friendly host.
a bit difficult to find, but that's probably true for all things around Boston.
James and Karl were great hosts. Very laid back and easy going. It felt like I was staying with friends. The room was cozy and well heated. Great WiFi connection. Overall a very good experience and an excellent value. I would stay with them again.
The house was neat and clean, with a driveway and parking in front. We were greeted by the owner's son Karl who showed us our room. When we came back that night, Karl was out but we hung out with their really cute cat for a bit.
The bed was queen size and very comfortable. The house was a good temperature and we were sleeping soundly until about 2:30 a.m. when a group also staying there (I believe who were friends with Karl) came in quite rowdy and loud.
I was able to sleep through it but my boyfriend said he was up until about 5:30am, when they finally went to sleep. He probably should have asked them to be quiet but it did seem a bit inconsiderate since they knew others were there.
When I told the owner (who was out of town), he said he felt horrible and gave us a refund and offered to let us stay there again for free.
From reading another review, it sounds like this has happened before.
Still, this is a great value (considering you'd normally pay like $200 for a hotel) and a cute neighborhood. It wasn't too far from the city center (maybe a 20 minute drive) and we were told it wasn't a far drive to the T-station.
I liked the stay, overall.
Nice people and a clean and tidy place but not close enough to Boston at all if you are on public transit. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you have a car and are prepared to drive everywhere.
Karl and Giovanni were just (website hidden) nice, clean and respectful.Would have them anytime.
Nice and easy going guest. Kind and well mannered. Recommended !
James and Gil are wonderful! We loved having them at our place and invite them back any time. Fun, smart, and self sufficient - you cannot ask for more.
James and Gil are amazing. They really are very cool and excelent guests. We hope they come back in other opportunity"
