I stayed at Shangri La for a week in April. Although I never met Drew, he was in contact with me throughout my visit, even emailing me to tell me about the lunar eclipse that was happening while I was there! Shangri La is a magical place, as the name suggests, and it is clear how much thought and care Drew has put in to creating this special retreat. I will be back!

My wife and I used Shangri-La as "base camp" for a couple days of hiking in Joshua Tree National Park, and we couldn't have been more thrilled with our choice. Staying at Drew's place is an "act of discovery." Even on our final morning we kept noticing more details of the artwork, landscaping, and interior design elements. Although we didn't meet Drew in person, the cabin tells an incredible story about him and his dedication to this desert haven. Above all, the incredible light and views stand out. Entering the main living space on a clear morning is totally exhilarating. The light changes throughout the day, giving the place a magical quality. Awesome!
Very cool little house out in the desert with lots of interesting details. Wish we had more time there..would be great place to check out of society out for a week (with occasional forays into Joshua Tree NP). It was farther out of town than I expected, but it really only takes about 10 minutes to get into town or to the NP entrance. Great views, nice kitchen, fun place.
the house is amazing, the pictures do it justice and we had the time of our lives. the house was stacked with amenities (towels, sheets, blankets, spices, condiments...even the coffee!) and we were extremely happy with how things were left for us. the book drew left with the house's befores and afters was amazing! will stay again for sure, so beautiful
Absolutely stunning desert home. Drew was a fantastic host. We will be back for sure!
Shangri-La indeed. Drew has created a wonderful home - and surrounding mini compound composed of colorful shipping containers that house great, playful surprises, including a ping pong table and lounge chairs from which to take in the view. There's a lot to explore in the surrounding area, but Drew's place is so cozy, beautifully decorated, and self-contained, that we spent one whole day of our stay not leaving the property at all. We hit the swing set, read books and drew in the shade, played a few rousing rounds of table tennis, busted out the board games and drank wine on the tiki patio, enjoyed the sunset, cooked dinner (via the well-stocked kitchen AND nice outdoor grill), and ended the night by the fireplace inside – perfect. How Drew transformed a 1940s homesteader cabin into the oasis you see today (check out the 'before' photos and story in the welcome binder at the house) is truly impressive, and Drew is a friendly, responsive host to boot.
My boyfriend and I had such a nice relaxing stay at Shangri La. It was so nice and peaceful being as isolated as we were in the desert with absolutely nothing around. Drew was extremely helpful with pointing us in all the right directions for eating, shopping, and surviving the desert! The house was so pretty! Drew did a wonderful job bringing that place back to life. We are definitely planning another trip back. Thanks Drew! Xo
There's nothing to say but that Drew has thought of everything! Shangri-La is absolutely incredible, from the multiple patios to the outdoor shower to the beautiful interior decoration to the clear desert views. I will definitely be coming back!!!
We loved our time in Drew's beautiful abode. It was everything he said it would be.
Drew was a great guest
