I am the chef of my restaurant below the hostel, and so I have a passion for food and life and I love to adventure through the natural miracles of Hawaii. I hope to see more of the world sooner than later. :)

Shane was very friendly and helpful. We checked in later than planned due to a bunch of flight issues. The room was clean, spacious & comfy. Just what we needed! We ended up checking out super early so we could get a jump on the day---sorry we didn't get to try the famous French toast :) I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place convenient to South point, the volcanoes and green sand beaches.
Nice stay at Shane's hostel. Although we didn't expect to sleep on a air mattress, we did sleep well and would come back anytime in the lieutenant' room :)
The wifi didn't work but it was temporary due to the weather. Shane is a really nice guy, really chill, and always ready to give you a good advice about where to go or what to do. Thank to him, we swam with wild dolphins!! :) thank you so much for that!! And the breakfast is fantastic!!! So delicious for only 5/7$!!
The rooms rented out were located in another building, apposite the hostel, in the old police office. The room I had (named Lieutenant) had an inflatable double bed. If I had known that before I came I would not have booked as I do not like to sleep on it. The room was nicely painted and decorated, but really too small for a double, your luggage blocks where you walk, even when you are single. Room is definitely too small for 2 persons. Kitchen is Nice but narrow, so I had no place or table to eat the food I prepared. Location could do with a dining table and some pans, and a realistic description of each room, maybe the other rooms are larger.
Shane and his family were really helpful during our stay, and Shane gave us some great recommendations for things to do around town and in Hilo. We were able to check in early upon arrival. The internet was down 2 of our 3 days but that wasn't a big deal, we just walked over to the main building for internet access. Shane was really active in trying to get that issue resolved.
Our room was quirky but comfortable. However, I was disappointed that we did not get the room pictured. (We ended up across the street at their other property which was not as nice, and the bedroom was right next to the kitchen so it could get pretty noisy at dinner time.)
Other than that, we enjoyed our stay! Naalehu is a fun town and it's very close to Green Sand Beach/South Point and just an hour from Volcanoes NP.
Shane is great and will do all he can to make your stay comfortable.
Shane and his family were awesome, aloha all the way. The rooms were clean and accurate to the listing. They offered a very affordable, locally sourced homemade breakfast, including great local coffee. The village of Na'alehu is quiet and friendly. I would totally stay here again!
Relax in this cute little town of Na'alehu! Discover the Green sand beach which is a short drive down to the most Southern point of America from Shane's place or another short drive is the amazing Black sand beach at Punalu'u to greet the green sea turtles building their nests.
Shane's rooms are spotless, comfortable and above all affordable to the budget traveller. Shane has a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area and such a friendly guy. There is a great kitchen to use with good facilities. A very pleasant stay for a few days on our journey around the island. We stayed in the Lieutenants room which had an air bed which at first I thought..... Oh no another uncomfortable restless sleep- But to our surprise we both had a very good nights sleep. Great shared bathroom, hot water, good wifi. What more could we ask for.
We were only there for 1 night but would stay there again. The place was very clean. All of the people we meet there were very cool. Shane kept in touch with me thru the whole process.
Shane, as all the other reviews mentioned, gave us a billion lovely things to do during our stay and we did ALL of them! We wandered around a bit not sure which door to enter however he ended up seeing us before we managed to send him a text. Other than that, easy peasy! We stayed in their second building and had absolutely NO concerns about noise. From the street (which is 25 mph anyway) nor from the other guests who all respected the quite hours. He cooked us great food at VERY affordable prices however the cafe was mostly empty other than us when we went in. Our kitchen was well set up although for cooking was mostly set up just to boil water. He did offer us trays and things from his cafe kitchen though in order to use that sweet new oven in ours! The shower was HOT! and the bathroom huge. Our bed was a pretty substantial air bed but we slept just fine and had no inflation issues :)
The place is spacious and clean! The bed is comfortable! The neighbourhood is not big but cute! Shane and his wife are very nice!
