Response from Jack & Janie:
We would like to point out that we were not at all anxious, or worried. There seems to be a basic confusion here, confusing disappointment with worry. We both have lived in Paris for at least 15 years, and are closer to zen than stress. We chose Airbnb simply because we are Airbnb hosts ourselves, and Corrine's spot in the Marais seemed to be what we wanted. When we reserved, there was only one review; had we been able to read all of the reviews since, we certainly would have gone elsewhere.
As for our "big daughter", she is a professional musician who has lived for the last 8 years in Canada and in NYC. No need to worry about a short stay in Paris.
We called Corinne just twice, when we told her about running out of hot water, and when we told her our check out time. We saw her just once - when we arrived. She didn't come to see us at the end of out stay, and we had a train to catch. We simply left the key and a good-bye note on the table.
We were not in Paris for the weekend, by the way, but for a mid-week stay.
In the flat, one room, which is a sort of dining room and just off the kitchen, is not usable in the winter because it's partially in the open air, and imposible to heat . So some of the apartment charm is left for you to look at but not use, at least during the winter months. This room is prominent in the photos of the apartment.
I would say that the basics - some sort of a decent coffee maker, a garbage can, a reasonable hot water reserve, an electrical system which is not made up of loose plugs and hanging wire, chairs in one piece, and some - just a little - cleaning, are not too much to ask. In any case, it certainly is a far cry from a luxury hotel.
And I don't think that Corrine should be the one to tell us where to stay.
