What a wonderful place to stay!! My husband and I stayed at one of Jason's bungalows for our month-long honeymoon and had an incredible time. Jason is a fantastic host and a wealth of information. He helped us plot out an island-wide motorbike trip, shared books with us when we had run through our supply, and was a constant flow of Balinese info. The housekeeper, Wayan, was a lovely addition to our trip as well. She rented us a motorbike and helmets for the month at a very reasonable price. She kept our room, sheets and towels clean, was always smiling, willing to do odd jobs for us (like taking our laundry to be done or refilling our water jugs), and she was a pleasure to chat with everyday. The Hermitage itself was ideal for my husband and I, who wanted some privacy for our honeymoon. Having only the two bungalows and Jason's house on the premises, we were able to relax and enjoy some solitude separate from the other visitors staying in multi-roomed homestays around us. It was a very short walk from The Hermitage to Bingin Beach, and a 2-5 minute drive to Padang and Uluwatu. A 10-15 minute drive got us to Balangan or Pandawa, and 15-20 minutes we were at Jimbaran or Nusa Dua. We were in a great location for exploring, which we definitely did! We highly recommend Jason's Hermitage for anyone looking for a private oasis on the Bukit. It's a fantastic place to destress and recharge, and when we return we will definitely be staying here again!
Jason has created a perfect tranquil place, ideal for those who want something very different than the hustle and bustle of Kuta and other overcrowded tourist saturated places. The Hermitage Retreat has been carefully designed to help guests relax in a peaceful surrounding: the landscaping, the outdoor shower and the bungalows capture the essence of the old Bali.
Best of all is the resource of Jason's 15+ years in Bali. He knows the island very well and can help with practical information, from the best beaches and places to visit, to solving difficulties with visa's etc.
The housekeeper Wayan was a delight. She made breakfast and cleaned our room each day and gave us the best massages we have had in Bali.
We have no hesitation in recommending Jason's retreat to anyone who wants a quiet and friendly place to stay on the Bukit Peninsula.
We have spent three wonderful days at The Hermitage. The place was even better than in the pictures, and it is very clean, with a lovely ambience. We loved the shower outside, the breakfast in front of the gorgeous garden... And Bingin is a great place, our favorite spot in Bali. Thanks for all, Jason.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hermitage and Jason was a great host. The villa was so beautiful and peaceful, we had breakfast made for us each morning and the lovely servant Wayan looked after us every day. The outdoor bathroom in our villa was a beautiful touch.
If you want peace and tranquility away from all the madness of Bali (even though there isn't much) then this is the perfect hideaway for you!
Jason's place is very nice and clean and very close to the beach. Jason was always available for us and ready to help and explained us everything we needed. He also helped us with organizing surfing classes in a very short time. The breakfast was very tasty and the room and the bathroom absolutely met our expectations: clean, comfortable and well-furnished.
My girlfriend and I stayed with Jason for 2 nights and absolutely loved his place. There are 2 completely separate bungalows which can sleep 2 people each, as well as a large meditation/yoga area for people to use. Jason's own cook made us pancakes, fruit and coffee each morning which was great, he also organised scooters for us to hire and the taxi to come pick us up to get to the airport. His place is very internalised and private which is great. The outdoor showers were nice as well. When we wanted to go to the beach it was literally 100m down the road, which made checking the surf very easy. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend staying with Jason for a very unique and tranquil experience.
Response from Jason:
Thanks Scott all the best mate
I'm really happy I chose this as my first place to stay in Bali. It's a lovely tranquil garden with only two bungalows, a yoga pavilion and an outdoor kitchen, the perfect place to wind down and clear your head. For some reason the map was showing this place as being close to the center of the island but it's actually really close to the cliffs, next to Micks Place, and there is a flight of steps perhaps 50m away leading down to Bingin beach. I had booked one week but ended up prolonging my stay. Only downside was mosquitoes, but this was in the middle of the rainy season and you probably won't get away from those unless you stay in a hut at the beach.
Jason was the ideal host, had me picked up at the airport, got me a bike and spent probably an hour setting up my hammock just right. He knows the area like the back of his hand and can give you lots of good advice on what to do an how to get around. On the days I didn't feel like going out for breakfast Jasons maid would make me breakfast and she would also clean my room every day and take care of my laundry on request.
So anyway. Three thumbs up! This place is an undiscovered gem, snatch it up if you can.
Me and my girflriend have stayed a month in Hermitage. The room is indeed clean and cozy. The place is very green, quite and peaceful. It looks better than on pictures. The great advantage is a possibillity to use a kitchen.
Jason was very friendly! He provided me with all the usefull info and gave lots of advices, concerning surfing stuff.
I certainly recommend this place to stay for those, who wants to relax and surf.
