My stay in Keith's space was pleasant and refreshing. He was a gracious host and went as far as calling me (the day before Father's Day) to tell me that he couldn't help himself from washing my car because he had just washed his son's car. I call that 'above and beyond hosting' responsibility!
Thank you Keith for making my stay so memorable. :-)
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at Keith's. We were able to bring our puppy with no extra charge. Keith himself was easy going, attentive, and friendly. He didn't have strict time constraints on check-in or check-out which as really nice for us.
His place was very clean, comfortable, and private. The studio actually has two private entrances - one near the front of the house and one near the back. There is also a narrow private patio with a chair and table if you want to relax outside. Also, I noticed that one of the previous reviews talked about how the bathroom is in the same room - this is true. But Keith now has a thick brown curtain that cordons off the kitchen/bathroom area from the rest of the space. This worked just fine for us!
Overall, we had a really nice stay at Keith's . It was the perfect little spot for a 3-night getaway!
The studio is large enough for one person, but not enough room for guests.
The best place we only could find in North bay ever. It's located in beautiful and quiet place, very close to San Rafael downtown(15-20 minutes from all places you would like to visit in this small and cozy town). It's really the Gateway to SF bay area, and probably it's the best place for people who would like to visit San Francisco and not to be tired about crowdy city. We were here with car and we spent only 20(!) minutes to get to SF Golden Gate park and its ocean beach. It may take up to 5 minutes more to get Pier 39, China town, Lombard street or any other interesting place in SF, About 6 minutes of driving from here is ferry station where you may ride the ferry and get SF by bay and see SF downtown from the see side. The place the outlet situated is very beautiful by itself, there're lot of gardens and beautiful trees and flowers around, the house is surrounded by pine trees, so every morning you may feel fresh air with unbelievable pine flavor. Every evening you may take a walk and enjoy beautiful view form the hill to the northern bay part, San-Rafael, Richmond bridge and Richmond itself, it's a really spectacular view you never bore to enjoy here. The sublet is very cozy and cute. It has a big glass door you may see beautiful view through, you have your own private garden with table and chairs to drink coffee or tea there after walk. Sublet has enough space inside, all furniture and equipment you may need, it's not a problem to stay here even for month. So just to make conclusion I want to say that this sublet is in beautiful place, very good location to get SF by car, bus or ferry, it's not too large but still it's enough space inside, and it's not very expensive in comparing to other sublets, so all this make this probably the best place you may find in the North Bay. I may only say thanks for the Keith who hosts this gorgeous place and let people enjoy staying here.
Keith was a wonderful host! The basement apartment was very clean and comfortable. I was even allowed to bring my cat at no extra charge. When it was my time for my partner and I to find a permanent place, Keith spoke positively about us to our new landlord. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying with Keith!
I was looking for a home in the area and needed a place to land while I completed my home search and started my new job in San Francisco. This was a great fit, with a full kitchen and even my little dog could stay! Keith was a kind and gracious host. He attended to any issues I had in the unit quickly and was flexible when I needed to extend my stay. It is conveniently located near San Rafael (with restaurants and shops) and hiking trails are available just up the street. Beautiful China Camp park is minutes away and there is convenient access to 101. We ended up buying a house in the same area! I would recommend it, especially for a longer term stay.
This studio was the perfect landing spot for me, and although I unfortunately had to cut my stay short, I highly recommend this space and Keith. He was easy to get in touch with at every step, helpful and friendly, and seemed to have thought of everything. The space was just as described (except the drop-leaf desk in the photos seems to have lost its leaf, so I just used that as a dresser and worked on my laptop at the coffee table). Considering it's a basement, it's remarkably sunny and bright, while also offering a great deal of privacy on all sides. The kitchen/bath setup is certainly unconventional but serviceable. Overall, you'll find this a very comfortable place to hang your hat.
Mixed experience with this stay. Pros: Spacious, light filled studio, lovely view, great location, fast wifi, dog friendly. Cons: Weirdly equipped kitchen (no knife to cut anything, no cutting board, nothing to make coffee or even a kettle to heat water) Noisier than expected, footsteps in house above are loud and owner's daughter threw a loud, all night party in the middle of the week while owner out of town. Odd layout, there is no door between the bathroom and the kitchen- I knew this ahead of time but is still weird-there's a door frame in place-why is there no door?
We stayed for a four-week vacation at Keith's studio and enjoyed the time very much. The studio had all necessary household appliances, it was quiet, and comfortably large for two. We really felt "at home". It is located on a hillside above San Rafael, can be reached only by car, but in a few minutes one is in the city or on the freeway.
Keith was a good and friendly host and was very responsive to our needs: Early in our stay, for example, we had a problem with the washing machine, and Keith took care of it immediately.
In summary: We can definitely recommend Keith's studio.
Pros: Nice area and beautiful city. San Rafael is a nice historic town with lots to see and excellent walking and parks etc.. Landlord very nice and responds fairly quickly. Excellent internet connection and nice TV. There is also a small phone booth type shower (small but ok). Comfortable space and private.
Cons: Big room with toilet in same room - by yourself - no problem - better be comfy with any roommate though. Also no real cooking goes on here - better be prepared to eat out a lot. Fortunately excellent restaurants abound (I miss that!) - really a good eating city. It's also not Lots of parking - depends on the local businesses of some cabinetry shop across the street - at times the street was loaded with trucks. Also a lot of noise from an obviously well used iron staircase to the downstairs just on other side of wall.
We had to change plans after reserving for several months. We gave notice and found out that 30 days notice is the minimum. So we stayed two more weeks and left - lost the other two weeks worth of paid for time. So be serious if you reserve for a long term. I've had other reservations that are much more lenient - usually two weeks is more than enough (and fair I think). But that's our fault for not reading the listing more carefully. Can't blame the landlord for that I guess. First time I've had (email hidden) though. Landlord is very nice and tries his best to accommodate - and always has a smile on his face!
Overall it's an expensive area - and this is a good compromise in a nice neighborhood. The streets are narrow and mostly one lane - but there are several interesting routes if you've the time to figure them out! Enjoyable stay for sure.
It was great to meet Keith and share our experiences as airBNB hosts. As a guest, he was great and left everything in pristine condition. I look forward to hosting him again on his next Princeton visit.
