Kristen was very welcoming when we arrived. The apartment was completely ready for us and she gave us some great tips on the area. The location couldn't be more perfect. It's as close to Manhattan as you can get in Brooklyn and has a very neighborhood feel. We love feeling like locals when we travel, and Kristen's apartment plus her tips helped us do just that.
I met Kristen the night that I arrived and she left; I appeared on her doorstep, she showed me around and gave me the keys, and took off for the airport. She's easy-going and seemed very relaxed about leaving a stranger in her apartment, and invited me to help myself to the staples in the pantry.
The apartment is small (although not by NYC standards) and very nice--a perfect size for one or two travelers, and very clean, with a bathroom you can actually move around in (you don't have to stand in the tub to brush your teeth). It's also quiet; all I heard in bed at night (and the bed was among the most comfortable I've encountered in an airbnb rental) was the very faint rumbling of the 8th Avenue subway lines, which run underground near the building. It is a fifth-floor walkup, though, so you best be fit!
Really, I couldn't have been happier. I love Brooklyn Heights! Thanks, Kristen!
Kristin's cozy apt is on one of the most desirable streets in all of NYC - in Brooklyn Heights, just steps from the promenade and many great places to eat. Kristin was a really great host - she Fedexed the keys to me, along with a set of instructions. Everything in the logistics of the stay was perfect. The wireless internet and TV/roku worked great, and the apt was extremely quiet - we never heard anything. The double bed in the bedroom was very comfortable, and the pull-out sofa bed in the living room was as comfortable as a...pull-out sofa bed. The bathroom and kitchen were very small but quite functional. Only a few downsides: the apt is on the 5th floor and the building does not have an elevator, the lock to the front door can be quite stubborn until you figure out how to do it without injuring your fingers, and there's a guy a couple floors below that smoked quite often and the smoke wafted up into the apt through the open windows - this would be frustrating if you are very sensitive to cigarette smoke. Overall, a great apt in a great neighborhood, at a great value.
Kristen is a great friend, travel companion and host. Her place is a fantastic spot to stay in Brooklyn! A cozy apt. filled with lots of light and located within blocks of all necessities. Kristen is a wonderful person who takes great care of her home! I would strongly recommend working with Kristen and staying at her home in Brooklyn.
