Response from Richard:
This is what can happen when you write a measured negative review on an apartment. It's the first apartment we have rated unsatisfactory since using Airbnb and unfortunately it resulted in a vindicative reaction.
Of course we never smelled walls. Another reviewer complained about smoke smells in the apartment so we had asked if the apartment was smoke free. We were told it was and smoking was only allowed outside, so no problem. We actually never met Alex, only communicated via email, so not sure how he can claim this. We have also never at all asked for a discount in any shape or form. We didn't complain a lot, but did find it reasonable to point out the toilet paper on the floors and in the toilet bowl, the greasy sink and the left over dishes from previous occupants, especially after paying 40 euros cleaning fee upfront. The landlord who lives next door fixed the drains when they were blocked on our first day, we thanked him and never met him again, we don't even think he is part of the rental agency that Alex works for. The apartment just wasn't great and not everything specified in the ad was true or there.
