First impressions of the area can put you off, however it was quite pleasant with no problems. The apartment was large and clean and provided a good base. Very close to the metro which takes you straight to the centre of town. John was quick to come and meet us after calling him - and gave good advice about Amsterdam.
I had a nice time in this apartment. Its very spacious! John was extremely helpful, especially with all of the luggage i had!
Rachael was really nice and friendly (I didn't meet John), plus she kept the apartment clean. The neighborhood was suspicious at first glance but it's really a close knit community that possessed no serious threats. The train station is next to the apartment complex with a 15 minute ride to central station. We shared the apartment with another guest but we did not see much of each other. I was there to travel Amsterdam, so I just needed a cheap place to rest and shower. This place was ideal for what I wanted. The bed was comfy and clean. The bathroom and kitchen were kept tidy but the apartment is an older apartment (keep that in mind). The internet was fast enough for all my needs.
I was disappointed with this listing on on arrival. Spent only one night of our 5 days there and had to make alternative arrangements for the rest of our stay. Had to wait for over 30mins outside before having access as no access was put in place by the host as previously agreed. When I eventually telephoned to enquire about access, he did not apologise for keeping us waiting nor convey the impression that he had been expecting us. He was so cold on the telephone. He eventually sent someone else to give access. Also discovered that host was a man as against the picture of a woman placed on his listing.
The room was beyond basic standard (speaking as a host myself), bed uncomfortable, dirty towels provided, unclean kitchen, rotten fruits in the dirty kitchen cupboard and an unusable fridge as the door did not close. We were advised to use it like that by the lady who eventually gave access. Host did not even respond to email correspondence nor make contact by telephone to discuss all concerns raised about the accommodation. Had to email pictures of the place to airbnb to get some refund.
Speaking for myself, I shall definitely not be booking this place again especially with such an unresponsive host. I give it zero rating.
First of all I didn't meet with John personally, his girlfriend pick up us from metro station which is close to their home. We ask for bicycle and information about city to his girlfriend but she did not helped us , so we're still angry about it. House was like abandoned. No soap in the bathroom, nothing to eat in the fridge, no wifi connection (even if they say yes). There were just a few plates and pans in the kitchen. Moreover sheet was not clean at all!!! In addition, The last thing that scared my mum a bit is that house is located in immigrants area so you can see lots of black, asian etc. people. Probably that building complex is for just immigrant people.
John and his girlfriend were very helpful and friendly. No problems at all. Our room was large and had a nice balcony. The apartment was about a 2-3 minute walk from the metro station that took us to Amsterdam Central station within 20 minutes. Next time I'm back in Amsterdam and the room's free I'll have to take it!
