I'm not sure what's going on here but I feel that this review is entirely unfair, and for the most part, entirely untrue!
Laura was present for most of the morning that my friends and I checked out of her suite, and as such, knows full well that she provided us with cleaning materials such as a mop and bucket when we asked for them in order to thoroughly clean the place prior to our departure. As we had done a number of times throughout our three month stay with them so she KNOWS the suite was cleaned regularly!
We spent almost 2 hours cleaning the suite, this included removing all trash and recycling, washing up ALL dishes, vacuuming, mopping both the bathroom and kitchen floors, polishing all the surfaces and ensuring that the windows were opened to air the suite out.
As for the bathroom being left in such a state that they had to replace the sink and toilet, this is untrue! Rory spent 30 minutes in that bathroom three days before our departure when we had an unexpected issue with the plumbing - at no time did he say that the bathroom was in such dire condition, and the reason for this is because IT WASN'T! There had also been a few other occasions over the course of our stay where Rory had reason to enter the property, or when Laura herself came to knock at the door, so they had been able to see that the suite wasn't in such filthy conditions as stated above.
There was no damage to the kitchen counter that we caused, and as for her kitchen drawers - they were already sagging slightly when we arrived, we put this down to normal wear and tear and the issue was only very minor anyway.
As for the damp in the walls - I'm not sure how she can attribute this to us? We didn't even notice the issue until the evening before we left when we went to retrieve some of our bags from the space on top of the queen bed on the back wall. It was the next morning when we noticed that the foam mattress that my cousin had been sleeping on (right alongside that same wall) also had some damp underneath, I attribute this to rising damp on their exterior basement wall and find it ridiculous that we are being blamed for this. (There wasn't any blood on the mattress that came from any of us either so I'm not sure what that's about?)
As for the books that were apparently damp, they were also on a shelf along that same wall - we didn't notice any damp on them, but this will be because we never once read their books - 3 of us own eReaders and our other friend isn't someone who reads for pleasure so we had no need to touch them as they weren't in our way or anything like that.
Regrettably, there was a stain on the carpet which was caused by an accidental spillage on the evening prior to our departure - every effort was made to clean the mess up. I even went to Safeway the next morning and bought a carpet cleaner which, while it did significantly improve the stain, didn't remove it completely. I intended to mention this, as well as the damp on the wall, to Laura when we handed in our keys but by this time, she had in fact gone out. I even returned to the property the next day after work to speak with Laura but no one appeared to be home.
Laura has my contact information, in the month between us leaving her suite and her leaving this review, she hasn't once contacted me to mention any of this. If we had really left her suite in the condition she describes, I feel certain that she would have contacted me. I certainly would have, had I found myself in a circumstance such as she describes.
I cannot help but feel that this review is a form of retaliation for my own review of their suite (which I left 3 weeks ago) in which I stated not only the good aspects to living in their suite on a long-term basis, but also some of the downsides that we encountered during our stay. Laura's review is ridiculously unfair, and angered me to read it. I am a tidy person by nature and I resent the implication that I, or my friends, would leave any accommodation in such a disgusting state as what is described above! It simply is not true!
