The school house is adorable and really peaceful inside. The bed was very comfortable and Bovina is a gorgeous area of the Catskills. A couple things to keep in mind: the kitchen is very minimal -- stove doesn't work and there's only a mini fridge. But the grill outside works great. Also there's definitely a lack of privacy here. It's not clear from the pictures, but the house is right on the road and also pretty close to the host's main house. The shades on the windows are see-through. It's a bit exposed. This should be made more transparent in the description; we were surprised.
We had a lovely few days at the Schoolhouse - it's a wonderful romantic place. It's really great waking up to see the dawn rising (there are windows all around). Megan and Joe were great hosts - and the place was very well equipped. Nice linen, comfy bed and charming crockery - and even without a full-working kitchen it still had everything we needed. Added to this Megan immediately came to the rescue when we couldn't start our car we had a winning trip - and our cats loved it their too!
Megan and Joe's schoolhouse is incredible. They are located just down the road and made themselves fully available in case we needed anything - which we didn't, because everything was perfect.
Joe's one room schoolhouse was wonderful for what we (my bf and I) were looking for--seclusion. No wifi + no cell service + beautiful view =heaven. It was also very well curated and the bed was comfortable and clean. The kitchen was stocked with amenities and there were towns nearby to grab food, which is necessary because there is just a mini-fridge. (I would recommend Two Old Tarts in Andes )
Private it was not. The schoolhouse was on Joe's property and while there was some distance between the home and the schoolhouse, the thin walls and nearly see-through curtains were not ideal for romance. Maybe I was being paranoid or perhaps prudish, but the schoolhouse is also directly on a road and the doors only lock from the inside. We didn't mind that much, but the pictures are slightly misleading. All in all, we would visit again.
Very charming, just big enough. Beautiful view and quiet countryside.
The school house was a perfect getaway! No phones, internet, tv and plenty of space to rest and relax. My husband, myself and the dogs were in paradise!
Incredible place and setting to propose to my now fiance. Plenty of room for our dog to run free. End of June provided an incredible combination of hundreds of fire flies at night and the ability to see the Milky Way at the same time! Brushland Eating House is a 5 minute drive away and provides a gourmet meal in the most unexpected setting.
My wife and I came here for to unwind after our wedding, and it was absolutely perfect. It's a beautiful spot, elegantly decorated, and in an area that's incredibly fun to explore. Joe and Megan were very thoughtful hosts -- they've done a great job making the place comfortable for guests, and anticipating all the little things one might want or need. They even left us a bottle of wine and some chocolates as a wedding gift; it was incredibly sweet and the kind of thing that makes a stay memorable. I recommend the school house wholeheartedly.
Joe and Megan's place is exactly as described — charming. The setting is very private/remote, but situated near to Bovina Center and Bloomville, which have solid restaurant options (Brushland Eating House and Table on Ten). Waking up to birds swooping around the grasses and opening the door to that view out the back was just beautiful. The schoolhouse is in good working order and the bed is particularly comfortable. Wildflowers everywhere this time of year!
The schoolhouse in Bovina is an amazing get away spot filled with charming antiques and comfy bedding. There is a little lake and gorgeous lands surrounding it and a great vibe. Highly recommended and Joe is an ace.
I love the school-house. Apart from always having wanted to live in one...this is the next best thing. Joe and Megan have done a beautiful job restoring it, and this one is on a small road with a lovely view, peace and quiet. If I did not live close by myself I would rent it!
