Colleen and her guests were nice people. But I do not know why they had to stain my new towels with Mascara and other substances. While I appreciate constructive statements about my wonderful house, because I always want my guests to be happy, this review only points out the questionable parts of the house, not the house as a whole. Some Guests that stayed right before Colleen had allowed the bathtub to overflow causing a flood that went from upstairs to downstairs ruining the paint job. Even though I had the house cleaned including steam cleaning all the carpet and furniture right before she checked in, the two days in between guests did not leave me enough time to paint the house. It will be painted next week, I have had to take it off the market for a week, just to fix their damage. I can tell you from experience, it is impossible to handle uncaring guests that damage the house when you have people checking in right after their visit. This was the first time I have had such a challenge. I have purchased new bed linen and pillows. Those are in the house right now. The ant problem is literally all over Southern California. The Draught of 2014 means ants are on the move. I mentioned to Colleen at check in that every house on the beach touches the sand and we need to keep sweet things in the Subzero refrigerator. But they left candy out on the counter and in their handbags. Ants just go where the food is. I have had an exterminator in yesterday so the ants have been remediated for now, However the ants will return if sweet things are available and not stowed properly.
As far as balcony concerns go, all our beach front balconies are constructed with a slight angle(deflection) so that when the surf crashes on the deck (you can get wet at high tide!) the water rolls right back in the Ocean. Had Colleen bothered to ask me, a reasonable explanation would have been available. If you do not ask, I guess you know it all? If she thinks a posh hotel would be better, it just shows you that she should not rent private homes at all, because we cannot be hotels, only homes. However, Colleen does not compare apples to apples. Two oceanfront rooms at a popular posh beach front hotel just 2 miles from here run $800 a night for each room. Colleen paid half that price for my whole 2000 sq. foot house!!!!
In conclusion, I offered Colleen and her party a late check out for the day of departure until 3pm, but she wanted her stay to be from noon on check in day to Noon on departure day. BUT, I had guests checking out at 11 am on the day she arrived. How could I clean the house for her in one hour? Some people just do not get it and it hurts all of us. If you are like Colleen, Please do NOT book my house, please go to a hotel! This type of vacation is not for everybody!!!!
We do our best to maintain our beach front property. It takes a great deal of work, due to the constant battering of the surf on the house and the incredible invigorating moisture that the waves bring with them inside the house. Nicole was not a respectful guest, to say the least. I would never rent to her again. She damaged the house, stole property from the house and would not leave at check out time. If the property was so bad, WHY DID SHE LEAVE 4 and a half hours late? She lives only 30 miles away and upon meeting her she said she was having an ant problem where she lives as well. I told her that IN THE DEAD of Summer, we are prone to ants. This year more than ever the ants are on the move, however if you put the stuff they are looking for in the Subzero refrigerator: Problem solved. The furniture is only 4 years old. Only 2 people have ever had a problem with my furniture. Nicole did so much damage she had to make up a cover story to avoid being charged money out of her deposit, which I did not do, but should have! Nicole's real problem had to do with a water main break a mile down Pacific Coast Highway. This water main break effected all the homes in our area for several hours, certainly not perfect for a vacation, but what in life is always perfect. The top decks of these houses are constructed with a slight deflection (angle towards the beach) to facilitate drainage. These decks can get wet at high tide!! You can not be any closer to the action(Surf) than this!!! On the lowest deck, you can fish all day long!
