I'm originally from England. Jet skiing up through the bays in the late 90s, I came upon Sag Harbor. Despite being in a wet suit unlike the other guests who were very smart, Ted Conklin of the American Hotel gave me a great table outside, and had a very enjoyable lunch. I fell in love with the Hamptons that day, and by the end of the year had bought a house. Being in an area surrounded by water on three sides, special light, the superb restaurants, swimming in ocean/bays/pool, the vineyards, the neatly nail clipped lawns, it's so incredibly relaxing.
