Tranquility House totally lived up to its name - it was tranquility personified! My family and I enjoyed our stay there very much. The place was very clean and well maintained, and well furnished with everything we needed. And the big windows in every room, especially the dining room, provided very tranquil views of the surroundings.
Although its not on the coast side of Rt 1 but on the other side, the Sea Ranch beaches were only a short drive. Alfred provided the Sea Ranch parking permit which allowed us to park anywhere in the community close to the beaches.
We would love to go back to the Tranquility House again.
Al's place is a real gem. Nestled at the end of a road, it has views of redwoods and (from the top floor) the sea. House had everything one needs, and space to spread out for a long weekend. Our favorite nook was the long window seat (enough for two people, or owner + dog!) where I spent most of one day reading. Sea Ranch itself is a magical place, with strong aesthetics and environmental ethics that have successfully tucked hundreds of vacation homes into the hills where they are hardly noticeable, and interspersed them with hiking trails for use by all. Al's place, and Sea Ranch generally, is our new favorite getaway.
The Tranquility House is fantastic. It's very private but close enough to walk to the ocean. We enjoyed using the barbecue, the fireplace, and the hot tub, and the backgammon table was awesome. I was very grateful that the host is dog friendly and let our 10-year-old dachshund come along for the stay. A heads up that you have to bring your own sheets for the beds.
My only issues were that the mattresses are really firm, and it was impossible to get comfortable on the modern black couch in the living room (different than the one in the photos on this site currently). If you think you can deal with that, then I highly recommend this place.
Beautiful location. We loved it!
Tranquility House is perfect for a weekend getaway. It's nestled away in a quiet corner of sea ranch, but is very close to the ocean and to the nearby town. The house is clean and very nice and Al makes everything incredibly easy. We've already been there twice and definitely plan to go again!
We had a relaxing stay at Tranquility house! This was my second time staying here, and it was great to experience the house again. The hot tub was the main focus of the weekend. I appreciate the well stocked kitchen so you can create decent meals and we enjoyed playing board games by the fire.. We used the BBQ this time around and had some fantastic chicken. Overall great experience, thanks again Alfred!
A fantastic retreat into an almost magical setting. The location is stunning with the booming waves from the Pacific keeping you company while you drift to sleep among the pines. An amazing stay. The house itself is beautiful, well stocked, private and quiet. A perfect tranquil escape.
We found the Tranquility house as described by the owner. Al was diligent in getting us the keys and other house info, the instructions were clear, the hot tub was clean and easy to use, the kitchen well stocked, and the house certainly was quiet as it is situated far back from the highway and nestled against the woods. We also enjoyed many games of backgammon on a large, custom-made table. And Al's clear affection for well-mannered dogs made us feel comfortable bringing ours.
My only issue is that I searched airbnb for a house near Ft. Bragg and the Tranquility house was returned in their search. This house is south of Gualala and part of Sea Ranch which is lovely, but 55 miles south of Ft Bragg. On Highway 1, that is a beautiful, but, LONG trip. My mistake for not Googling the exact address.

Al let us know when he would arrive and was a gracious guest. We would be happy to host him again.
