Emily & Stephen were fantastic hosts. Emily scheduled a time to meet us at the house (get directions... it's tough to find!). She was super welcoming and inviting from the moment we met her. She showed us where the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen were located. She gave us some tips & suggestions for places to see & eat in the area. We headed out to Hilo to enjoy the day after checking in with her.
The next morning we met Stephen, who showed us around the property. We explored the grounds to find papaya, banana, coffee, grapefruit, mountain apple, lychee & more! We had great conversation with Stephen and we could tell that he & Emily really love living on the Big Island.
Overall our stay was amazing. The bedroom & bathroom were both clean and private. The property location was perfect - just north of Hilo and down the street from some great beaches. I highly recommend staying with Emily & Stephen. We plan to stay there again next time we visit!
What an awesome young couple! Room is in a cute plantation home in a great location. Plenty of storage and a comfy bed with an easily accessible bath. House is spic n' span and hosts are quiet and considerate. (I also found the neighborhood quiet... did hear a dog bark one day and an occasional rooster) No negatives and an unbelievable deal for this budget traveler. Loved Steven and Emily! Great conversation!
Great stay - we had great conversation with Stephen upon the arrival!
This space is a small bedroom about 15 minutes from Hilo. I really appreciated the enthusiastic way in which Steven and Emily helped out with recommendations about attractions on the island, and urged me to check out Mauna Kea--kudos on being great hosts! However, I was a bit disappointed with the loud neighborhood and feral cats going at it in the night--I'd recommend investing in a pair of earplugs.
If your looking for a true Big Island feel of Hawaii I recommend staying with Emily & Stephen! They were super gracious hosts with fresh baked goods and coffee in the morning. Easy to communicate with and they have a rich knowledge of there local area. Which is fantastic by the way!! Thank you so much for hosting!!
Simple basic room, noisy neighborhood. Busy hosts but had info available to us. One bathroom and a simple breakfast and coffee.
I had a wonderful 5 day stay at Emily & Stephen' s home in Pepe'ekeo. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well. Their home is conviently located for exploring the northeast coast of Hawai'i and the area around Hilo. I enjoyed my stay with them---especially the warm chocolate chip cookies.
The place was clean and comfortable. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood. The room was sweet and cozy. By cozy I don't mean small. The room was definitely big enough for two. We only got to meet Stephen and he was great! Laid back, friendly, and generous is the best I can describe him.
If you're looking for a quiet comfortable place that is easy on the wallet with friendly hosts that are willing to share local culture so you don't look foolish then this place is for you!
The house is a short drive to Hilo and the beautiful Akaka Falls. There is a 4 mile scenic drive that is just on the other side of the road. It is not to be missed!
Emily and Steve were more than accomidating and friendly, they were great hosts! Exceptionally clean and comfortable place to stay. Made us feel like we were at home the moment they picked us up from the airport! They went beyond what we expected and we feel like we gained 2 friends in this process
Stehpen and Emily is a really sweet couple. They stayed at my place for 2 nights. They were on their way to Cincinnati and decided to stop by San Francisco for a quick tour, which was their first time in SF. They arrived later in the evening but I'm totally cool with that. I gave them some idea of where to go the next day. We had some really nice conversations too. I hope they had more time so they can tour SF more. And I would welcome them back as my guest next time!
Stephen and Emily were a pleasure to have in my home,I couldnt get Emily to stop cooking. They were both engrosing conversationalists and will become lifelong friends I am sure,as they are moving here .
