I really enjoyed staying here. The bedroom and attached porch were great. Also, there is a really tasty restaurant across the street and a nice park at the end of the block.
I drove from St. Louis to Roanoke for the Blue Ridge Marathon and the experience of staying with Tomme just made my trip to Roanoke so much more special. I can't say enough good things about Tomme, his charming house, or Roanoke area in general. Everyone who has previously reviewed has done a great job at highlighting this amazing find. What a fabulous place with such wonderful hosts who will make you feel at home! I feel lucky to have been able to stay there and meet such amazing people.
Great host in an interesting historic neighborhood. Would definitely stay again! Enjoyed Roanoke very much!
So I couldn't make it to see Thomas on Sunday because of a train de-railment and he was super accomodating. THEN- we got hit with another snowstorm in Boston. Go figure. Thomas was willing to accomodate me no matter what. Very nice. I ended up heading to Texas for warm, dry weather but I'll stay with Thomas sometime soon. Very helpful and understanding. Thanks Thomas!
If you are in the area, this is a no brainer. STAY HERE. The house is gorgeous. The room was very clean. I loved the animals. The host was a genuine sweetheart. I really enjoyed my stay.
This was a fun place to stay. Tomme, Mauricio and Teddy are great hosts who will make you feel at home and share their urban farm--fresh eggs, milk, cheese, butter and healthy food with you. If you stay here, you should like loveable dogs and a lovely black cat to keep you company. Your room is upstairs in the back so it is quiet with a very comfy bed where you can retire and have privacy. I was there in the winter and most of the rooms in the house are warm. I imagine the perfect time to stay here is spring through fall when the screen porch off your bedroom would be usable and the artfully done living room and sitting room on the first floor are wide open. The neighborhood is full of Victorian houses and fun to explore. There is a huge park at the end of the block, an excellent bakery and restaurant across the street and you are literally minutes from downtown Roanoke. There is a beautiful modern YMCA a couple of blocks away which your hosts can give you a guest pass to. Your hosts are very knowledgable about the area and friendly, very intelligent, interesting people.
Thomme was a wonderful host - extremely friendly and very inviting! His home is absolutely beautiful and the room was great. We really enjoyed our stay with him and loved all the wonderful people we met during our time there. We'd definitely go back again!
The folks at Big Blue were very welcoming. The whole house is artfully done, with what looked to me like beautifully restored salvaged or antique furniture and art from around the world. The room was beautiful, with a little screened-in side porch. The location of the house was great, very close to downtown in a historic neighborhood, and right across the street from a nice little local restaurant. I think people in their 20s-30s are best suited for this place, especially artists, explorers, musicians, and others who like to dream a little.
This was a terrific (URL HIDDEN) interesting, conveniently located. Tommey is just the best! So talented and outgoing and willing to share.
We loved everything from the nearby park for the dogs to the restaurant across the street for dinner and our hosts - so friendly.
Can't be beat ....
The accommodations and hosting made us feel at home.
Thomas and Teddy were delightful!! Great self sufficient and positive vibes. They fit right in easy to our funky little community setting and never seemed to have a negative word. Far from trouble, Thomas even pitched in to clean one morning. Enjoyable conversations and interactions over coffee. They are always welcome back!
