We had a pleasant stay in Ilene's quirky (in terms of decorations!) apartment. Ilene is a nice, flexible host and it was easy to get in touch with her when necessary.
As other reviewers have noted, the Wi-Fi connection is kind of slow, but worked well enough. Also, the heating pipes were quite loud at night, but ear plugs fixed that problem. It can get very hot in the apartment, but luckily there was a ceiling fan.
The apartment is in a great location, fairly close to subway stations and bike rentals, and with some very nice restaurants and bars nearby.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay in Ilene's apartment!
We had a great stay at Ilene's place. We didn't actually get to meet Ilene since she was or of town, but her nice neighbor Pierre provided us the keys, and everything worked very well. The location is perfect with bars and restaurants around, and several subway stations nearby.
I had a very pleasant stay at Ilene's studio, her friend Pierre was really nice and welcoming and this a great location for exploring NYC, with plenty of good restaurants in the area.
This is the second time I've used Ilene's place and it is perfect for a weekend in NYC. Easy assess to both Manhattan and Brooklyn the location of the apartment is near perfect. In addition the host is very easy to communicate and also mindful of our comfort. I would highly recommend this place.
Ilene was so kind. She even made sure we got checked in early, although we would have been able to stay with friends. We didn't meet her, but her friend Pierre (who is a hoot) helped us out. We had a ball just talking w/ him.
As for the place, it is as described. It's conveniently located and has access to a great restaurants and the train isn't far. Unfortunately, it was just a bit uncomfortable (small/tight) for my fancy. It's older NYC living .. I'm more of a contemporary guy. That said, knowing what I know about the place, I would recommend it to someone, as long as they are mindful they will be in an older building with some tight spots (the shower).
You should know, you'll get nice treatment from Ilene and if you have to encounter him, Pierre.
The place was great, Ilene was not able to meet us but her friend Pierre did. He was fantastic, really nice and made us feel at home. The location cant be beat.
I had a fantastic stay in Ilene's cozy studio apartment. Great neighborhood easy access to the subway. Her neighbor, Pierre, greeted me when I arrived and was very helpful during my stay. The wifi, though slow, worked well enough with no major issues. As mentioned before, the heating pipes were quite noisy at night when trying to sleep. But overall it was a very pleasant stay.
- nice location
- cheap rates compared to nyc hotels
- noisy: the building is quite old and heated with steam pipes. It seems quite common in that zone of the city. This causes annoyng noises above all during the night. Be prepared and bring foam earplugs
Ilene has a cute, neat-as-a pin studio apartment in a wonderful neighborhood. She was very responsive and offered to recommend things to do and places to see in NYC. The apartment is located close to a number of subway lines making it very easy to zip around the city, plus it's near SoHo, The Village, Chinatown, and Little Italy. There are lots of interesting restaurants and conveniently located food shops in the immediate facility. The apartment building was surprisingly quiet at bed time, which is refreshing for NYC. All-in-all, this apartment is a value find in the trendy Lower East Side.
